Hello everyone, for years I've been taking my cheap Gerber and Kershaw pocket knives to a guy in a van at the local farmers market to sharpen them. No more farmers markets these days, and my taste in knives is getting better over time. It high time I learn to sharpen my own steel. I know very...
Also, for over-unders, there are two types of safteys, i cant remember which is which, but one of them is extremely annoying. The annoying one engages the saftey every time you load and close up the breech. I think versions called “sporting” have this, but double check in that. This feature...
I have an 870 and a Berratta Silver Pigeon o/u. Personally, i dont like side by sides, i find them a little unweildy, sadly, the closest you might get to an 870 on cost is with something like a mossberg semi auto, although the earlier suggestion for an old weatherby is a great idea. The...
Definitely! I also send my heads out to get refurbished. Was about $150 per side, came back looking better than new. That fixes the well known valve seal issues also.
I don't have a helpful opinion about the troubleshooting aspects. There is a lively Montero group on Facebook that has been helpful to me in similar circumstances. However, doing the head gaskets is not too hard. The hardest parts for me were undoing the exhaust manifold(s) and the AC/pump...
Yes, Interior is directly the same, drivetrain is 99% the same. Gen 2's came with a few different flavors of engines, including SOHC and DOHC versions. The parts for the 3.0 SOHC are mostly the same as the 3.5 SOHC motor, with minor exceptions to the "front plate" the that holds all the...
Yours is a Gen 2 (flat fenders vs flared fenders). I hesitate to call your a '98, but there are some weird transition models, so maybe?
Gen 2.5 looks like this:
What you are asking for is right here:

Also, you can go to ADD's forum, its all listed there (even though the forum is now closed)...
I have seen some YouTube mechanics heat up the tie rod ends with a torch and then go after them with a BFH.
I think the asterisk in that sentence is self-explanatory, but it did seem to work....
I had the direct opposite expertise from FJ Colorado. My ARB 50QT had a similar malfunction. It ran full tilt freezing mode or not at all. ARB asked me to ship it back to them, which i did (and paid for), and a week or so later i got an entirely new gen2 unit, shipped to my door. Sweet!
Hello MontyTX. Welcome to Montero Ownership, where you can afford to drive your 4x4 like a rental :)
For Body Lifts, I fully, 110% endorse ADD for anything they mfr or sell. They are best, and often only choice you'll have. However https://www.rocky-road.com/montero.html also has body lifts...
There is a great thread on here (somewhere in the Mistu area) about how to fix this. The electric motor has limit stops that are made of some biodegradable material that is degrading, and causing your locks to toggle (bounce) up/down. Pretty easy repair, if a bit finicky due to small size.
Well, one thing the Monty has is a LOT fewer plastic bits. On the Audi, everything is plastic, including the manifold. Every single connector, hose, and tube, is a break-off-while-removing item, and the one time clamps are from the devil himself.
I just want to say, I love removing the intake on the Montero. In fact, the entire top end is super easy to dissassemble. I never really appreciated that before, until this weekend, where I attempted to remove the intake manifold for my son's Audi A4 with the B7 2.0L engine. Holy Crap is that...
Autohome has a decent reputation, I have no first hand experience. An important consideration is what vehicle are you mounting it to? Many US vehicles have lower weight carrying capacity than overseas models. This means the fairly light weight fiberglass shelled products like the Autohome...
