Good point. I thankfully don't camp in temps below 40 degrees, so the air mattress has worked fine. But, I can definitely see this being valuable if I were to camp in CO or UT in the winter like so many do where temps are in the 20s or lower and there is snow. Definitely will look into a...

    Post your tents

Smittybilt Overlander 2783. Love the tent, have spent about 20 nights camping in it and find it to be a solid tent with good construction and protection from the elements when in inside. Pic is from Big Bend National Park back in February. I removed the foam mattress pad and replaced with a...

Timbren Axle-Less: important info for those building

You guys have been GREAT! Sean in customer support help me sort everything out. He was responsive and incredibly patient with a trailer novice like me. It's rare to find quality customer service like that these days and very much appreciated.

Timbren Axle-Less: important info for those building

Based on some cursory research, looks like 120F is on the high side of acceptable temps for non-braked trailer hubs. Most say the hubs shouldn't feel "hot" to the touch and that means one should be able to comfortably hold their finger on the hub for longer than 2 seconds without any...

Agreed on the first point and will do on the second point. :)

Timbren Axle-Less: important info for those building

Thanks for the tip! Will definitely follow precautions/instructions when reassembling and will do a few short shake-down runs while checking temps and pre-load. Seems it's really no different than what I'd do with my mountain and road bike hubs: preload finger-tight, check for play, ensure...

Timbren Axle-Less: important info for those building

Definitely will use the cotter pins. Don't want a stray wheel going "rogue" on the highway :) Good point on one tightening and the other loosening. Hadn't considered that. I'm used to bicycle bottom brackets and pedal threads which rotate clockwise on the starboard side to tighten and...

Timbren Axle-Less: important info for those building

Not sure. They are E-Rated, so they will be more harsh I would think. Just like on the truck where the E-Rated made a noticeable difference in ride quality. I know they will roll "slower" because of the larger size. The stock 205/75/15 would roll at 744 revolutions/mile whereas the 285/65/18...

Timbren Axle-Less: important info for those building

Yup. If I wasn't so concerned about having additional spares, I'd probably just leave the 27"s on there. But, Big Bend State Park and super remote areas in Utah that I'll be traveling typically it's a good idea to have more than the 1 spare on the truck. Having another I can take from the...

Timbren Axle-Less: important info for those building

Very good point. That is true. I was thinking more about the weight of the 33s increasing the heat. My 33 wheel tire combo weighs 92lbs. The 27 wheel/tire combo was like 42lbs.

Ok, so an update and a mea culpa. Timbren part #s are confusing as all heck as they have changed over time and different combos can be created. Turns out I HAVE an "HD" setup, but a version that is 2 years old (part #'s have subsequently changed). The part # is ASR2KHD.... The 2k is the spring...

Timbren Axle-Less: important info for those building

Construction-wise, I think I did get a good deal. Many of these trailers are running around without issue. Have spoken with 5 different owners of the same trailer who are all happy over the years. The frame is solid, straight and it was over $1200 less than a new Morris. The wrong axle-less...

Timbren Axle-Less: important info for those building

The trailer is a Morris Mule knock-off. Originally built by Pak-All in Austin, TX. They were sued in 2017 for patent infringement and had to liquidate their inventory. The builder bought 3 from a bankruptcy auction. They were incomplete chassis (frames already welded up with the tub). All...

Timbren Axle-Less: important info for those building

UPDATE BELOW in GREEN (4/23/19): Original Post: The trailer I recently bought was equipped with the Timbren 3500lb Axle-less suspension. I outfitted it with 33" off-road tires and experienced a catastrophic failure of the hub that damaged the spindle beyond repair. This occurred within 50...

    Smittybilt Scout Trailer Reviews?

The actual retail went up to $5999 from the previous $4999 for the "wheel-less" version (which is apparently not an option any longer) and $6999 from the previous $6499 for the "wheeled" version. Smittybilt has yet to confirm anything to me (despite multiple email requests) as to what...

    Advice on trailer hubs

ust bought a Morris Mule knock-off with the Timbren Axle-less suspension. The builder put on the Northern Tool 1750lb hubs. These are supposedly their highest rated hubs. On Thursday, I swapped out the 27" tire/wheel combo with my 33" tire/wheel combo. On Friday, while driving on the...

AWESOME! Those are worth WAAAAAY more than the price increase for sure. Thanks for detailing that. Those are all the issues I recall people mentioning as shortcomings previously. Very happy they addressed those at an exceptionally reasonable pricepoint.

    Smittybilt Scout Trailer Reviews?

Where is that info available? I reached out to Smittybilt on FB and via their contact us on their site and got no response. Their site doesn't indicate the updated features...just looks like a copy/paste from the previous version. 4WheelParts had no idea nor did Quadratec. If those are...

    Smittybilt Scout Trailer Reviews?

Looks like Smittybilt increased the base price from $4999 without wheels to $5999 without wheels and from $6499 with wheels to $6999 with wheels. Curious what improvements were made to justify the $1k price increase on the base trailer or if it's just the increased tariffs for Chinese imports...
