    2005 Montero Ltd modification questions

Yes, it is inexpensive and easy to do. Almost. It is a bit of a PIA to fish the wire through to the interior to plug into the radio. I recommend tying or taping a string or wire onto the old one before pulling it out. And then taping the new one to that same string and pulling the new one...

LR3 coil spring conversion... Technical advice needed before I go insane

Cant you order OEM coils and ECU's? Mine was a factory springer, I could probably find the VIN, might help you narrow your search within the OEM listings. The factory springs were too low for me. I found King Springs from Austrialia to be a good combo of lift and spring rate

    2015/16 LR4 Dual Battery Setup?

The LR3’s had a large, difficult to reach spare firewall grommet directly below the main wiring loom. Alternatively a number of people found it easier to simply poke through the steering column grommet. Be sure to seal them up because they are both a bit low.

Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

What do you mean, exactly? What makes the trail narrow for you? Trees? Rocks? You seriously can’t get the PowerWagon down a trail the Gladiator can do? It is length or girth? Or is it simply the high hood line and poor visibility in the Power Wagon? Now that prices for trucks have spiked...

    LR3/LR4 Roof Storage

I too would be concerned about weight. You are over-riding the center of gravity advantage of the unibody on frame construction. 32C.U. is a lot. Have you experimented with conventional roof boxes first, before you go through that process of fabrication? A Yakima Skybox 21 will hold a lot...

General question: Head bolts on Monteros torque to yield?

On the 3.5L gas engine, it’s torque to 80ft lbs, back off, then retorque back to 80 ft lbs (page 11B-56 in the service manual) Be sure to follow a standard cross-cross pattern for tightening. The manual shows this on page 11B-31

    Whazzit?

Car alarm installed at the Port by Mitsu USA. Not really “factory”, more like Quasi OEM. Prone to immobilize your rig at inconvenient times. There are threads on how to remove it

    Crankshaft pulley bolt

The washers are nearly identical, I don't see any issue with reusing it. As to the comment about them being convex, um, I think yours might be bent. I have had about 6 crank bolt assemblies on the bench at one time or another, and they were all dead flat.

Looking for advice from seasoned adventurers

Also, I highly recommend you alternate nights camping with nights "in town". The wife will appreciate it, and when Momma is happy, everyone is happy, right? I did a similar trip a few years back. Best vacation ever:
