Advice on my house battery setup?

car alternator will put out 14.4 volts, battery wont be overcharged. But I would have a coulomb meter just to make sure your not putting more amps then you took out. TK15 High Precision LiFePO/Lithium/Lead Acid Battery Tester Coulomb Counter 50A (this one cost 23 dollars, they got ones to handle...

trying to understand battery capacity terminology

Thats the recommended charge rate for most lead acid, some require even higher. The manufacture of the particular battery will have the correct charge voltage. When a battery reaches 14.4 volts it is consider 80 percent charge then it absorbs at that voltage for several hours. If you dont use...

trying to understand battery capacity terminology

Question #2 (solar charger related) When My Renogy charge controller (Viewstar 10A) says it is delivering x.x amps to the battery, does that number include efficiency losses? or is that the actual amperage being delivered to the battery? Myself I notice I had voltage drop (.5 volt) between my...

How often do you clean your Solar panels?

I havent cleaned mine in over 3 years, it always puts out the same amperage. Last time I looked at them they looked dirty but not dirty enough to clean them. If it affects output it's probably minimal where I don't even notice it.

    Insufficient Solar Setup?! Input Appreciated

keep the float setting at 14.4 volts, also verify what the voltage is at the battery and what the controller is reading. If you have any voltage drop, the controller will stop bulk charging too early and go into float. On my system I have a 1/2 volt difference. The battery reads 14 volts but the...

Using load output on solar charger

the only problem I would have with using the load out is it shutting off. On my ecoworthy mppt controller if the controller suddenly encounters "edge of cloud" syndrome where the the sun suddenly comes out from behind a cloud, the voltage will increase past 15 volts as the powerpoint changes...

    Dual battery solar controller.

I keep my float voltage at 14.5 volts all the time, so stage charging is not something that I monitor, I only notice that a battery connected to the load out behaves like the one connected to the battery out. I don't notice any difference between charging from battery out or load out. It seems...

    Dual battery solar controller.

I found out my ecoworthy 20 amp mppt can charge 2 batteries at the same time, one from the battery out, and the other from the load out. Which ever battery needs more amps gets more amps. Nothing in the ecoworthy directions says it can do it, but it can easily charge 2 batteries, maybe all...

Just another battery voltage drop question!

if you can take the float voltage up to same as the bulk/absorb voltage. Just keep it at that voltage the entire time its connected to solar. The controller is probably cutting off too early and switching to float before battery is fully charged. With the higher float voltage, when it switches...

looking at 12 vs 24 volts

the GreeSonic Authentic MPPT, looks too small to be a true mppt controller, its only 1.5 inches thick is what worry me that its not mppt. There is a review on youtube "Cheap MPPT(?) Solar Charge Controller - 12v Solar Shed" that looks very similar to the greensonic but smaller 10 amp, it proved...

looking at 12 vs 24 volts

which mppt controller are you looking at for 50 dollars? that is kind of low for mppt, all the cheap ones are in the 90/100 dollar range. Some say mppt but are not true mppt. Most panels I seen are either 21 volts or 36 volts. The 36 volt ones work better with mppt, the 21 volt panels you...

    Voltmeter/battery bank help

Depending on how long the isolator is feeding the batteries. If you are running the engine for several hours it might be giving them a good enough charge. It has to be able to keep the battery at 14.4 volts for several hours. The high amps will get it up to to about 80 percent, but then the the...

    Voltmeter/battery bank help

Maybe your batteries aren't being fully charged. The 12.7 volts might just be the surface charge. With solar sometimes you might not get your batteries fully charge. Since your fridge is the major power user is it a 12 volt model, maybe you are using more power than you can replace. I decided...

Building a battery generator vs. buying Goal Zero Yeti

build your own is the way to go and a lot cheaper. I use to run a fridge 24/7 months at a time with a 120 watt panel and a 75ah agm battery. But if you will encounter cloudy weather the larger the battery, the longer you can go with charging the battery. 100 ah sounds like a good compromise and...

Remote monitoring of secondary battery and solar

I have been using a wireless 120v 30 amp lcd combo meter (cost me less than 25 dollars)to monitor my lithium battery. It has a relay built-in, that can let you shutoff power going to the battery, low voltage, overvoltage can also trip the relay. There is a good review of it on youtube. The meter...

    Solar charge controller

it depends what the voltage of your panel is? if its 21 volts all you need is pwm, if its over 30 volts you can use pwm or mppt. Mppt will get you a few extra amps from a higher voltage panel, it won't give you any advantage on a low voltage panel. Mppt takes the excess voltage and convert it...

How to choose a battery monitor, which amp rating 30, 100, 200?

I been using the same 90 volt 30 amp combo meter going on 4 years, its always on 24/7. Its connected between the controller and battery. It can measure amps going into battery and also amps going out (bidirectional). If you need anything more than 30 amps you probably have to connect that device...

Isolated solar set-up for fridge. questions / help needed.

As long as you keep the fridge set to 40 degrees and you have a lot of sun you might be able to do it. I google the optima yellowtop and the biggest one was 55 ah. That barely can do the job 50 percent of the battery is 27 ah. You don't want to go below 50 percent to extend the life of the...

Solar for ARB 60L Fridge - Help!

for a 100 watt panel all you need is a 10 amp or higher pwm controller, myself I use the wincong brand before and was reliable for me and cost less than 20 dollars. 100 watt panel will give you about 5 amps of charging power. 150 watts about 7 amps. The wincong I had I used on a 120 watt panel...

    Small, low-power evaporative cooler

they sell something similar at stores, but they all have the same flaw, they lack intake ducts. You need to put flexible ducting so it can get outside air for it to work. Also I don't see it holding too much water. And it being quiet means it won't move too much air. The only thing I saw that I...
