newbie would like to say hi and get pointers for g500 shopping..

Scarcity may be pushing the price up a bit, but the slow economy and resultant lowered amounts of available expendable cash helps the buyer in any price negotiations.

aircruiser aircruiser. Where in Georgia are you located? I'm in Gwinnett County, NE of Atlanta. I, too, have a 2000 G500 which I've had and worked on since 2002 and a 280GE from 1984 before that. I have a lot of the necessary tools, including access to the DAS/STAR/WIS/XENTRY diagnosis and...

newbie would like to say hi and get pointers for g500 shopping..

I can't speak to the financing, since I always pay cash for my vehicles; but I can say for certain and from 27 yrs experience owning and driving G's that parts, service and insurance costs and availability for the pre-MBUSA G's are no different than for the MBUSA G's.

First time Offroading my new G550

I found that, when I switched from 18's to 16's on my G, the overall ride improved in all respects - both on and off road. Just my personal experience. YMMV (Of course, I realize that this wheel change cannot be done on the G550.)

G-wagen Trip thru Australia - the new G-wagen Magazine

MB OZ had a detailed daily blog on their website. Also, more here: http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2011/08/mercedes-pr-stunt-backfires-g-wagen-convoy-stranded-in-the-outback.html One of the Australian motorsports mags also did a daily blog, but have since lost the link.

Are they as good as they say?

And do it on 16" wheels with more rubber than the 18's they did use.

    sad

Why those eyelashes, when they blink, will help to keep dust and dirt from building up on the headlights when off roading!

#5 on Scott's expo rig list

I've thought so since 1984 when I first started driving one; and it's more than skin deep! :victory:

#5 on Scott's expo rig list

One correction to Scott's "Pros". Civilian models are not "lightly armored from the factory". Well built, yes; but not armored in any way from the factory.

    MB GL450 drive

There are many MB vehicles built in Tuscaloosa and elsewhere that are not sold in the US. MBUSA has their collective heads firmly planted where the sun never shines!

    2000 Europa g500

My 292 HP 2000 G500 V8 gets almost exactly the same gas mileage as did my 150 HP 1984 280GE I6 - ~15 mpg on the highway. The 280GE was happy with low or mid-range octane gasoline. The G500 prefers premium.

    2000 Europa g500

If it's been well maintained, that's probably a fair price. I have a Europe Int'l 2000 G500, and love it.

    Looking for a G-Wagen

$25k max. I would be concerned about why the mileage is so low. Sitting in a garage is not healthy for any car.

    Looking for a G-Wagen

It's one that was imported by Europa International in Santa Fe, NM - as evidenced by the "WDBEG...." VIN. MBUSA did not start importing the G until the 2002 year model. Many folks, myself included, feel these less electronified early G500's are superior to the 2002+ models.
