Are you talking about saving a track in the GPS onto a card or loading a saved track into MapCreate? I have never been able to load my tracks into MapCreate. I gave up and use another software now for that.

FYI...You will not need Lowrance software or card reader to load routes, waypoints or tracks. The card reader is only needed to write the maps to the card. I have an SD reader built into my PC, which makes transfering data both ways very easy.

Try ExpertGPS. It has a free trial version. It will not put topo on your GPS, but you will be able to use topo and aerial maps to create a route and then create a file compatible for it.

The Baja 480 is monochrome. I have a 540C. It never heats up. Lowrance support is pathetic. It may be time to form a support group to focus on making improvements to the software. I am not sure what can be done after market for video harnesses.
