Have you done anything with a 8.8 yet? I just started at an International dealership 3 months ago and everytime I walk past a new bus with a 8.8 I think about yanking it out for one of my projects. I do have a 02 8.1/Allison combo for my M725.

Check your fan clutch and make sure your radiator and other coolers up front are clean from debris. I've owned a few and worked on even more 6.5s. Not a bad engine as long as you don't expect it to be like a newer diesel. If your fan clutch is bad replace it with a AC Delco unit, I've had bad...

Bring one of those temperature ray guns for monitoring your wheel bearings, axles, and transfercase temps. Might head off a problem before it kills your drive back.

Have a truck shop give it a once over or do it yourself before you hit the road. What Allison is in it? Hopefully not an AT545.

Seems I recall Jeep used to have a pretty dang good inline six. What was it again? The 4.something. I used to own one in a Cherokee as a daily driver. Would love to see it in a new Jeep. The engine is the one part of my 16 JK I'm a little disappointed in.
