    Winch Maintenance

I rebuilt a 6085 a while ago. Your's probably needs some TLC, just pull it apart and grease it up. http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45285&highlight=warn+mx6085

    One winch or two?

Virtually every trip we take to the mountains is a solo vehicle trip. I am planning having two winches for my setup. I already have both of them though. One is a brand new CE 8000 and the other is a Warn MX6085 I just finished rebuilding. The 8000 will be mounted in the front on a trail gear...

    Overland MJ am I nuts.

Should be a fun little project for a fellow like you then. You have to start a build thread though.

    Overland MJ am I nuts.

You are not crazy at all! An MJ would be such an awesome rig. The light weight, solid axle, and 4.0 combined with the truck body would be sooo much fun. The swap is also pretty straight forward. I converted a 2wd XJ to 4x4 using donor parts and it was pretty simple. The hardest part was moving...

Lowering my new rig for offroad travel

Just a little update. I removed the body lift last week and traded the 35's for some 285 75 r16 Toyo MT's. I love these tires. They did great in the mountains this weekend and rode good on the interstate back home. They actually measure out to be 32x10.50 and the size is perfect.

    Aussie Slide-In

I came across this Australian based company building offroad slide-in camper's. http://www.activecampers.com.au/flat-tray-camper-1950.htm#gallery They look very durable and I like the hinged roof. I am a big fan of keeping it simple and it seems like this setup would work well offroad and...

Thats actually the phone we used to have on our ambulance's for 12 lead transmission. They were pretty tough.

    Recomended Rugged/Tough Phones

:iagree: I use Blackberry's and refused to spend the money on the Otterbox for a while. I figured I could get by with a simple hard case. After ruining an 8330 I decided to spend the money on it. I work full-time EMS and wear the phone on my hip. It sees all kinds of abuse and is still going...

Would you buy and build a Gen 1 4Runner with a 22re and a AUTO?

They are definitely very similar. But in terms of reliability and performance there is a difference. Having owned both as well I would happily wheel a high output 4.0. I never want to own another 4.2 again. I would definitely put the 3.4 up against any AMC or Chrysler product any day of the week...

Would you buy and build a Gen 1 4Runner with a 22re and a AUTO?

The 4.0 and the 4.2 are different animals. The 4.0 is a powerful and torquey beast and arguably one of the best motors for offroad use. They are also very reliable especially if you keep it cooled down. That being said, I wouldn't swap into a Toyota simply because it seems sacrilegious to...

Would you buy and build a Gen 1 4Runner with a 22re and a AUTO?

Whatever you do build a pop-up camper into the removable top somehow. I have been waiting to see one.

Lowering my new rig for offroad travel

Yeah it is an Aisin manual hub. It was locked up and you really couldnt see anything from all of the mess. It is good to go now though. I will probably rebuild the other side just for peace of mind. I will definitely be keeping this one for a while, haha! I like this truck more and more...

Lowering my new rig for offroad travel

So I pulled apart the hub today and found a mess. It was very corroded in there and there wasn't an ounce of grease to be found. No wonder it wouldn't engage. Here are a few pics: After I got everything cleaned up and regreased I reassembled the hub and locked them down. 4x4 performed...

Lowering my new rig for offroad travel

Same here man, I think sometimes when I voice my opinion I may step on folks toes a little, but you have always taken it in stride. Iron sharpens iron and I have always enjoyed debating things with you. Yes the 4runner is gone, along with the FJ62, and also my 93 pickup. I did make some cash...

Lowering my new rig for offroad travel

So one of my Aisin hubs needs to be rebuilt I found out today. I will be tackling that tomorrow. Also found a fellow with some 285 Toyo MT's who is looking to trade. Hopefully by next week I will have the bodylift off and the new rubber on.
