May I ask why are you planning on making your own with the perceived risks, when a replacement cord is $30.00? Engel is more likely to support any issues you may get if you are using their power cords. It doesn't make sense to me to make it on your own as the savings would be very minor, but I...
I mounted mine by removing everything out of the "wide" drawer and crawling in the drawer to tighten the nuts on the bolts that went through, you can also see where the metal is to drill into. You can also follow the divets that are there for the decked track system
I personally think they are making a mistake not offering the Z71 with the diesel. Same crap that you can't get a Trail Boss Silverado with the diesel. They sell a distant amount of ZR2 Diesels. I wondering if they think it can't handle the tough stuff? I test drove a Silverado with the new 6cyl...
I've talked with OK4wd about mounting my Alu-Cab RTT and just the Shadow Awn to a Rhino Rack and was told to mount alu-cab low rise load bars to the Rhino Rack and then mount the tent or the awning. This was also the solution my friend used on the Rack she has on her 4-runner, we mounted the...
While I'm sure it is physically possible, I'm worried since the poles are so light weight that it might impact them negatively. The Rhino Batwing poles have the stake holes in a sturdy plastic piece at the bottom of the poles, the Guana poles just have plastic caps.
Here's the Guana from the top, The stitching looks good:
Here's looking up at the awning from underneath of it:
I had to guy wire the poles down, because one or two would fall out with a gust of wind.
Packing it for the first time, took some time, release all the poles, gather...
Unzipping and lifting the top of the bag was easy enough:
You can see that it has 3 internal Velcro straps as well:
And here is a close up of the bracket, relatively simple design and it looks like it will be easy to repair if necessary. Nice that the bracket is all metal.
Not as nice...
Mine came in today, have a lot of pics and a lot of first impressions, keep in mind, I do own an Alu-Cab Shadow Awn which is five times the price of the Guana and I also own a Rhino Rack Batwing, that died in the heavy winds in Montana's Prairie. The Batwing costs twice as much. I also have a...
I like the AluCab RTT a lot, but only when I'm travelling by myself. It's well built and designed and so easy to open and close. I recently also purchased an iKamper X-Cover and the build quality is night and day different between the two in terms of materials and workmanship, but the space in...
I really haven't had much issues lining up to hook up the trailer, mind you without the reverse camera in my truck, I'd never be able to do it alone. The trick I found is have the trailer lower than the hitch on the truck (rather than perfectly aligned). I've surprised myself how often I've been...
My X-Venture XV-2 trailer came with a Kilby 6k Max Coupler hitch. While most of my travel with the trailer has been on-road and mild off-road, I recently went on a trip to Montana and got stuck in the mud multiple times pulling the trailer when Google Maps took me on a track rather a road to get...
I used mine on my trip from Austin, TX to the American Prairie Reserve near Malta, MT and back. I did not download any maps as it came the day I was leaving. I got one camera installed (still have 3 more to install). I ran it alongside of Google Maps, I constantly flipped between the Drive mode...
OK4WD is the US Distributor for Alu-Cab, if you see the earlier posts, they reached out to me after my dealings with a shady vendor. They worked really hard to earn my trust and rectify the situation. That being said, you really need to investigate if they Alu-Cab is the right RTT for you. You...
I got a gift of the indeflate from a family member. I tried it out in my garage using my ARB portable twin air compressor with air tank and was able able to deflate (285/70/17 x 4) from 35 psi to 20 psi and reflate to 35 psi in under ten minutes. I was able to hook it up to my platform rack so...
I have an Alu-Cab Shadow Awn, which is mounted to my Alu-Cab RTT. I have an iKamper X-Cover on order and wanted to get a second 270 degree awning that I could switch between my truck and my trailer. While I love the design and quality of the Shadow Awning, one it is heavy (about 65lbs) and more...
