Welcome to ExPo...the overdrive function is switched on/off via the small button on the side of your shifter lever. It just keeps the truck from going into 4th gear. So if you feel the car struggling when going uphill at highway speed, push the O/D button and the trans will kick down into 3rd gear.

Ah, you're right nwoods, it was 102F near the lake, not at altitude. By the time I got up into the hills, the truck was running so hot the outside temp gauge was reading 123F, so I don't really know what the temp was up there. I'm just running the stock fan.
