    Sunsets

Thanks, we just moved to the Oakland Hills from San Francisco about 2 months ago. The commute is a bit longer, but I have a lot more room in the garage and the view was a big selling point. :) - Matt

    2000 4runner Sport Build

:) Sliders... and need to retrofit an e-locker... and then we'll see how I like the stock transfer case gearing on slow trails. I'm slowly building this up to replace a ZJ. The 4runner is MUCH nicer to drive around town, I've yet to get it on the trail. - Matt

    OldSven's 4Runner

I put the SS 1.2 lift on my 4runner earlier this year and have been very happy with it. With any significant lift on the rear 5 link suspension the axle starts shifting to the side and in my own opinion it is important to correct for this by lengthening the trackbar. The SS adjustable trackbar...

    2000 4runner Sport Build

Here's a more recent photo, still with the running boards on. I have my sliders in the garage ready for install, they should be ready for some trips we have coming up in July.

    12v fuse block with relays

That's an interesting idea. I had ruled out normal velcro since the adhesive wouldn't hold up to the heat in the engine bay, will check out the industrial version. Thanks. - Matt

    LED hatchlight

I've been playing around with high-power LEDs for a couple of years now, and when a friend of mine added a LED hatch light to his 4runner it was too great of an idea to pass up on. The base parts are a CREE XR-E LED, a current source driver that puts out ~650ma, a spare computer heatsink, and a...

    12v fuse block with relays

I'm in the middle of setting my my 4runner and as part of the build I'll be adding IPF lights on the front bumper, rock lights, and a 12v compressor along with other electric accessories. It's always easier to keep things clean if you do some planning first so I've been working on a sealed fuse...

    2000 4runner Sport Build

I got sick of the gaps and covered them with some 1/16" styrene. Laying out the template. Here is the pattern I built. Cutting styrene on the bandsaw. The "boomerangs". I attached the covers using 3mm metric hex-head hardware I have leftover from building an r/c car chassis. - Matt

Fuse on negative vs. positive 12v leads?

In an isolated circuit the fuse could be on either the positive or negative lead, it makes no difference since the same current is flowing through both. In all vehicles where the chassis is at ground potential (almost all cars) then the fuse should always be on the positive lead and as close to...

    Project Grand Expedition

I ran a D44A w/ 33" tires for 6 years on all kinds of trails and never had a single problem with the differential other than peeling the cover on rocks. If you can find one for a reasonable price I think it would be a very nice upgrade over the D35. If you were going to run 35" or taller tires...

    Project Grand Expedition

I'd recomend staying with a 32" tire for gas mileage and reliability reasons, and to aim for a ~3" lift with fender trimming to keep the COG low. I ran a 96 ZJ w/ 33" tires and a 3" lift for 6 years and was very happy with its performance. - Matt

    2000 4runner Sport Build

I got a great deal on a used ARB Prado bumper ($150) which solved the problem I was having deciding how to mount lights and better front tow points to the stock bumper. ARB never made an official bumper for the 3rd gen 4runner but both the Tacoma and the Prado bumpers fit. The Tacoma bumper is...

    1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee - $4000 obo

I really need to sell the Jeep since I have nowhere to park it. My new price is $3200. Anybody know someone who needs a ZJ built for the trail? It make a great camping and exploring rig. - Matt

    Custom Fuse-Relay Boxes/Power Distribution/etc.?

I've bought some fuse boxes from DelCity in the past and have been happy with them. They also offer decent prices on circuit breakers. http://www.delcity.net/ - Matt
