Thanks for all of that useful information. I know were I can get a 2nd gen pickup frame, suspension, axles and drivetrain intact for a good price. that might be good starting place. I guess finding a 4 door body would require takinga trip and seeing where the best suppliers would be. Where were...
That truck is what I am looking for but that price tag is more than I can justify. I have checked outback imports out from time to time. Always more than I can pay.
The chopped 4runner above looks pretty good as well. I have seen some bad chop jobs but that one looks well thought out. I could...
The truck looks great. It is simple, no nonsense, and very functional. I really like the build! I think the total chaos setup is would be excellent for an expedition style rig. I wish that I had the funds for the kit.
You could definitely buy one in Canada but the Hilux I want goes for a good amount of money up there. Haven't ever seen one for under $10,000.
Chet, thanks for the info I will check into that.
Could it be listed as a farm truck or utility vehicle or something along those lines?
4Rescue's idea...
I love the build! I was going to use the exact same kind of utility shell for a single cab 3rd gen I was looking to purchase. Its good to see someone building a 3rd gen truck. I am working on a 2nd gen 4runner right now. Do you have any plans for the suspension?
The Hilux I am referring to is the early 90s 4 door Hilux. It has a Diesel engine, SFA, and a shortened bed like the new 4 door Tacos. I have looked in to different ways of building a Hilux out of a domestic truck but it would cost a lot of money and would be a huge task. It still might be an...
I have seen people from other countries driving their cars here with their foreign tags and all. I do not know what the stipulations would be for an American Citizen though. Lets say I decided to buy a vacation property in Guatemala and kept my house here in the US. Then I traveled back and...
I know this topic has been discussed extensively but I had a thought the other day that I havnt seen addressed. One day I would love to have a 4 door hilux. I cant see paying the ridiculous amount of money it would cost to import one though. Could it be done by opening a PO box in a country like...
Yes it is very time consuming, but just think, we are already nearly 3 months into this thing! 3 more and we are halfway!
I am starting to really get the jitters now though. Knowing that in 9 months I could be lead medic on calls is really starting to sink in. The responsibility is HUGE...
Yeah I miss the 6.5" of lift with the flex of a coilsprung solid axle, but it is well worth being back in a Yota. You can just tell the difference in build quality with Toyotas. Everything is much more solid, nothing rattles, nothing is loose. The tolerances are much tighter. It is an extremely...
Im still following, just havnt had much to report. Congrats on that 98%, that is awesome. I think you might be a closet intellectual. Throwing down 100s and 98s!
We are doing CCR here as well. Makes sense to me.
I feel the same way about the ABS. Is that really a deal breaker for you? I am in the process of pulling the ABS out of my Toyota as we speak. I don't like not having the control I want on the side of a wet mountain. If you want ABS thats cool, but I dont like it at all.
D30s are ok but not beyond breakage. Just go ahead and SAS the thing and stick a 44 up there.:sombrero: An 8.25 and a 44 are a very sturdy combination.
$8,900 seems very cheap for a an '01 with all the options and under 100,000. Sorry to ask this but is it a 4x4? Have you actually looked at the truck or did you just talk to them? I have been told something was a 4x4 before and it turned out to be a prerunner.
