I totally agree. I think a updated body on frame van with some more modern features would really sell at this point.
As nice as the euro styled van's are sometime's you just need more capacity.
I know some of the plumbers at our shop are very unhappy with the switch to Transit's from the E...
They don't need to update. Essentially they have no competition now that all other manufacturers have switched to a euro style van. If you want a heavy duty van your only option is GM at this point.
Max towing capacity for a transit is 7500#
GM vans are 10,000#
Following Thom's lead I also went with a sort of soft wall. Built similar to his but slightly different.
I did use furring strips to create a somewhat even curve throughout.

Not sure where you are located but in the rust belt that would be a very clean body for the vintage. Personally I'd keep the entire rolling shell and try to sell it whole vs scrapping.
Consider this if you are really concerned about DD a van.
Every painting/plumbing/heating/electrical contractor in town has a whole fleet of guys who do nothing other then drive van's around.
I don't DD my personal van but have spent several years driving nothing but over loaded 1 ton vans to...
I wasn't sure the air hose quick connects would have enough flow but so far it seems great. Plenty of water coming from the shower head for a quick rinse down. And I only have about 9 gallons to work with so restricting the flow a little bit isn't such a bad thing.
No need to be too envious of...
Interior build moving forward. Upper platform will be for a bed, lower will be dog crates and storage.

Hmmm. That I don't know. What I can tell you is I have only found the driver side doors on early model year van's. 2004/2005. For whatever that is worth.
Joe,
You should have no problem intercepting the power and ground wires going to those lights and tapping them into your house battery system.
My assumption would be they are fed from somewhere in the front of the van. Should be as simple as clipping a couple wires and re splicing.
Obviously...
If my math is correct I have lost about 2-3 MPG vs stock. This was all from the lift and bigger tires, the high top actually had no affect or possibly a slight positive affect on mileage.
I know the question was never about a high top but a couple points on them.
1.With my 5.3L AWD express and a 24" high top I saw no MPG loss, quite possibly I gained just a touch per the computer
2.Installing it myself the high top was <$5k
My original plan was to add a westfalia pop top on my...
