Pop-Up Camper - Custom Build (scratch built) Oasis-Si

Sounds familiar. We lifted the roof into place today and prepped it for its final fitting...and it weighs more like 75# or so. Ok, so I might have been a bit off, and / or the glass and gelcoat did add a bit of weight. heh. It is still reasonably light, bun not as light as I had mentioned before...

Portable diesel heater from Total Composites

I didn't buy a generator... and saw these on sale at Home Depot. I thought to myself "I will go pick one up later". Mistake. Sold out and not available online right now? Odd. They seem VERY popular.

Portable diesel heater from Total Composites

That depends on how long you sit with the heat on and how cold it is. There are battery load calculators out there... like this one (https://www.batterystuff.com/kb/tools/calculator-sizing-a-battery-to-a-load.html). Calculate the load and duration and then add in other components drawing power...

Pop-Up Camper - Custom Build (scratch built) Oasis-Si

It's pretty crazy... this roof looks HUGE, but I can still pick up one end with one hand. heh...looks can be deceiving.

Pop-Up Camper - Custom Build (scratch built) Oasis-Si

Spent a couple of hours working on the roof (ceiling) again tonight. Mike glassed and gel-coated the sides and bottom edge of the roof inside (so far) to waterproof it and to get it ready to reinstall. We will flip it over and glass and gel coat the roof probably Friday or this coming weekend. I...

And thanks BTW...it turned out awesome. Worked great too.

    XJ/ZJ as budget off roader

Custom design and build. I came up with the design and my friend fabbed it up. It was made with DOM tubing, 3/4" as I recall with .120 wall thickness. The rest is steel mesh which is a PITA to paint btw...lol. More pics available if you are interested? Let me know and I can send you a link.

My trailer build. something a little different.

I like this build... cool design. Nicely done!

    XJ/ZJ as budget off roader

I had an XJ for quite a few years and had a lot of fun (just sold it and my matching trailer). If I were to do it again I would probably look at the WJ or the ZJ. I am leaning towards the ZJ for many reasons, but it would have to be one with the 5.2L V8. I like the 4.0L, don't get me wrong. A...

Pop-Up Camper - Custom Build (scratch built) Oasis-Si

Just ordered a second 100 watt Renogy Monocrystalline panel. This will give me all the power I need with the AGM battery (single for now) and the limited stuff running on electrical. I am somewhat planning ahead for a heater system of some description, but it will likely be a portable forced air...

Pop-Up Camper - Custom Build (scratch built) Oasis-Si

Its a good question. It will be over 1000#, but I am not sure by how much yet. I still need to finish it up of course, but there is not much going in to it still... the battery, fridge and the solar panels are the heaviest items. The rest is actually remarkably light. My guess, the roof as it...

    Custom build pop-up camper

We looked at options for aluminum, but came to the conclusion that it was going to be seamed or cost prohibitive to do with one piece. We ended up going with lightweight wood panels called Luan from Lowes. A lot of the trailer builders use it because it is water resistant and exterior grade, but...

Pop-Up Camper - Custom Build (scratch built) Oasis-Si

I forgot to mention. The corner trim was also started. Mike installed a couple of pieces to show what it will look like when it is all done. Nice look with the satin aluminum and the polished trim I think! This is all bonded in place with Sika construction adhesive to attach it as well as to...

Pop-Up Camper - Custom Build (scratch built) Oasis-Si

More work recently to try to get this roof completed. Mike worked on the corners, which again being round are more of a PITA than it may be worth, but it looks great so... heh, form over function? The roof panels were attached a couple of weeks ago. The front 2 smaller panels were done after...

    jeep jk unlimited camper project

The shape is spot on. The look is a near perfect mix of utility and style. The function seems like a winner, especially for a couple, a single or the Overland types. I think there is a market for these, but it really depends on where in that market you want to be? Simple and minimalistic, basic...

Pop-Up Camper - Custom Build (scratch built) Oasis-Si

I finally managed to get over to Mike's shop or some work today, but it was a short one. I can't get inside as the roof is all braced up and leveled out to ensure the skins dry perfectly flat. Mike has the roof frame 90% complete and we were putting on the exterior skins today. Once the glue is...

    Offroad Teardrop - SawTooth XL

Very cool. Now to commoditize this somehow and make mad cashola off of it! heh All kidding aside, nice design and its appreciated by many. I have a friend who was inspired by your shape on his first off road trailer.

    Custom build pop-up camper

Yeah... I looked everywhere at at all kinds of ideas for toppers, caps, boxes, lids etc... pop up roofs, RTT's, contractor boxes. heh I was close to pulling the trigger on an AT Habitat, but like the solid hard roof (like yours). Alumicab (sp) also looked nice. Making it yourself is fun, but it...

Pop-Up Camper - Custom Build (scratch built) Oasis-Si

Not a camper specific post this time, but if anyone is looking... my friend and skilled builder of all things camper / trailer / steel and weldy stuff Mike is selling his trailer that he just completed! I thought this was going to be his forever trailer, but it looks like he is going to build a...
