:sombrero: Thanks for that. I'd looked at electromagnets about 6 months ago, but was warned off a few times by different people due to expected heat buildup. Might be a good time to look at them again
I looked at going down the imported truck route for a while, had seen the European expedition trucks and often wondered what it'd be like to own one. Contacted a few companies in England & Germany about some, I really like the look/background on what I've seen on the Steyr 12M18, even joined a...
Looks like it's coming together nicely. How have you got the electromagnets connected in? Is it only when driving they're active? Have you tested them for heat buildup while active? Like the idea of using them, curious to see how they actually work out.
What's left to do before you're off?
Joe
Might be worth having a chat with LeishaShannon

He's gone full Lithium (even took out his starting batteries), can take power from alternator, solar and shore power.
I'll be looking at it more in around 6 months time, the...
Looks interesting, mix of antifreeze and coolant that never needs changing. Have only started to overheat once in the truck, uphill moved into the red, soon as it levelled off went back to normal.
I think a lot of the difference was relative/visual between our trucks. My wheels are a little bigger, but the parabolics give it another 2" of lift and it really looks like a box truck. Yours was a bit more built up. Be really curious to park them next to each other, when're you heading down to...
If you have the option, suggest rims that're interchangeable. Only need a single spare, makes rotating tyres easier. The ATW super singles I have can be interchanged front and rear, though I've got 2 spares, mostly as it made sense at the time.
Couple of choices that spring to mind. XPCamper and a Tiger motorhome sound like they'd fit the bill, Canter with either an Earthcruiser/ATW/Custom body build on the back, or a Sportsmobile.
Lot of it's going to depend on your budget, how much work you want to put in, need for space/comfort...
I'll play along too. My top list will sound similar
1). Comfort. There's a very good reason we chose to build a motorhome, wife couldn't take too many more camping trips for extended periods, a RTT was out and didn't want to pull a trailer. Something we could live in for an extended period...
Have you thought about the GMC Kodiak or Freightliner M2?
Alternatively, if you really like some of the old Mercedes/MAN/Steyr (above was the Steyr 12M18), plenty old enough to import.
Edit: This looks REALLY neat for a base conversion...
I had to look up what a cherimoya was, we call them Custard Apples. Nice fruit, though haven't had one in ages. Our plan is Blueberries, pomegranates and garlic.
I honestly believe the perfect vehicle for travel is a blue phone box re-aligned with a pass thru into a truck cab, brand is Tardis...
Hi Scott,
What're you growing? We're looking at buying a farm in a few years also.
I have the fg84 with 3460 wheelbase and ATW super singles/parabolics. Have only driven it a couple of times, rest of the time it's been sitting having a body built on it. But when did drive it, seemed to be...
It's always been part of my plans to use them. Am about 2 months from being ready to install, still got to figure exactly where I'm putting them and lose my current workshop in a couple of weeks. Will add in details to build thread closer to the time.
Will look more closely at the Kickstarter project a bit later. I just had 400ah of Winston's delivered today with some other parts, very keen to see them working. Benefits just seem to make sense.
Good looking project. Come and join us in the Japanese Heavy Truck section, there's a number of other Fuso 4x4's in there and a lot of knowledge.
What are your plans for the truck and travels?
I spent a couple of hours with Shannon looking at his truck and the split system installed. It really is just a domestic unit being run through an inverter that takes around 350W to run, you can barely hear it running during the day and it works really well. He certainly had us considering...
