After 8 years in a full size, moving back to a mid-size - Recommendations?

Of course, do whatever you like. But... a carport over the driveway would take care of the issues you mentioned. I used my "workshop" to sand fiberglass, cut, grind, and sand aluminum and stainless steel... and it's thorough mess... and my meticulous system of organization (total chaos) would be...

(Sold) 2016 Toyota Tundra + Flatbed + Fiberglass Camper Shell + Custom Build - $35,000 (Denver, CO)

Greetings from a fellow 2016 Tundra SR DC Long owner... love your build and the simplicity, and your asking price is great! (y)

After 8 years in a full size, moving back to a mid-size - Recommendations?

My utterly useless suggestion is... keep your F150... and park it outside, forget about the hail damage, and also stop worrying about door dings! None of the midsize trucks will be as nice or good for towing. Does anybody really park their vehicles in the garage? That's the workshop, man...

Is the TRD 3" Suspension Lift Kit for a 2024 Tundra sufficient for an Alu cabin build?

Yes, it will. Whether you have a lift or suspension upgrade or not. You don't need to change anything just to accommodate that amount of weight. The weight will be on the rear axle, which sits higher than the front by a couple inches. My guess is that it will still be higher with the load...

New guy with a couple questions.

They come off real easy, so do some switchbacks roads, take them off, and try again. Maybe you don't have any roads like that near, though. What are your shocks?

Mounting a composite camper box on 4x4 E350 chassis

That's why a flexible chassis needs a pivoting or spring loaded subframe. Or at least it's a good idea. My frame isn't as flexible as some, but I used poly isolators (4 in front, 2 in the back) with the rear ones on a centerline so they act as pivots. Only gone around 800 miles but so far so good.

    Maxing out your truck’s payload

The "factor of safety" depends heavily on how well you understand the loads the part will experience, the variance in part quality, etc. I'm pretty certain that most of what goes into truck structural design, is determined by warranty replacements and recalls... rather than modelling, analysis...

    Van vs Truck Camper

Yes, several friends (who don't camp or do any offroading) were underwhelmed when I showed them my camper. The gist of it was that I spent a hell of a lot of time building something that looks a bit crude (no automotive finish or fancy interior) and is simple... (no toilet, shower, or...

2022 Ford F550 - DIY - Adventure Expedition Vehicle Build Thread

I made beams to bridge across those jacks, side to side. If your fairings cover your wheelwells, maybe make that part removeable? Fine tune the CG with weights.

Thickness and dimensions of aluminum frame in Four Wheel Camper

Probably to reduce thermal bridging, or a little weight savings? They also need to flex also on some trucks. Kinda makes me think wood would be better. At least you could screw into that.

Composite camper - aluminum extrusion vs. FRP edges

What are you looking for? Plenty of places sell 2 or 3" angle that is 1/4" thick. That is excessively thick, but it would be a better thermal expansion match to FRP skins than aluminum. I'd probably pick 1/8 aluminum instead though, as I think it would be ok. 6061-T6 is cheap and pretty...

New guy with a couple questions.

It handles fine, but it isn't much heavier... yet. There will be an additional 1500 lb or so. When I add weight it will mostly be on the floor of the camper, and back seat, and under the camper... there is a surprising amount of space under there! I took it up and down the ski road and some...

Northern Lite 610 for 1/2 Ton PU

I like the idea. It's much smaller than anything else they make. Good choice for offroad.

Not a slide in; a home made bolted to the frame, monster. It's ~750 lb, plus 100 lb of frame interface and isolators. Removed the ~350 lb bed.

New guy with a couple questions.

It will ride better offroad and drive better everywhere. I put Ironman FC Pros on mine (2" front lift) and it made a huge difference. Cost was ~$1100 last year. I even removed the front swaybar... and just recently installed my huge camper on it, and it still handles great. That only added...

Weight estimation - DIY Ram 3500 with Total Composites or Box Manufaktur

I didn't read the whole thread, but one thing to remember is that 1 ton and lighter pickup (with a bed) frames are fully boxed these days, while cab-chassis models are not. The difference in torsional stiffness is pretty huge... and C-channel frames will require the cost and weight of some sort...

    SOLD...S-280 Shelter Box Camper

Which would be Chantilly, VA? Looks nice! I think dimensions and weight of the bare box would help your sale. They are not all that heavy and are insulated somewhat (R4 I think). Which one is it? https://www.ramims.com/products/S-280C-G

What foam sheets are Blissmobil, Krug, Bimobil, GXV, EarthRoamer, etc using in their composite panels and what density foam is used?

Sounds a little like this build. Van vs Truck Camper

The west is the best! Desolate mountains and valleys are ubiquitous (especially in NV)... lots of public land and easy dispersed camping.
