Realistically, how often do you tow a vehicle 50km? In 19 years of driving, I’ve had to tow something in the conditions described. Once. You can’t flat tow automatics far. Regardless of maker really. The same issue he talks of, is still present for Land cruisers so I hope he never has to...

Is this why JLR are dropping Land Rover?

It’s funny how Land Rover are apparently abandoning their heritage. Yet where I live in central Scotland, the next town over has a very large farmers market, which has been on the go since before 1892. Where they do regular livestock and machinery sales. In among the rows of Japanese pick ups...

Took a hit from an 18 wheeler while stationary. Held up pretty well considering. what’s the speed limits for trucks? Here in the U.K. it’s 56mph which is still enough to cause serious injury and death.

And so does the modern land rovers. you still need experience, skill and mechanical sympathy. you also need to understand that the TR system isn’t a magic bullet to get you through anything. It can help with making progress but you need to understand how it works and how to get the best from...

    New Defender News

Had a couple of days in the north of England for off roading. We were in 2 classic 90s and a L322. in among the farms with Hilux pick ups, was a green 90 hardback, covered in mud and sitting with a livestock trailer attached. nice to see they are being used by farmers. The 90 I was in maxed...

    New Defender News

Funny how people will dismiss a lifetime of trying to help the less fortunate and to improve lives as just a rich poser. Keyboard jockeys just like to bash and insult vs have any real interaction. No idea but they don’t have a 4” subframe life for a start.

I can happily file his opinions in the section called “trash”. Kingsley has made it into Norway. Rather curiously, they have P400s x2 in white and a D300 in green. The P400s are on 18s, 275/79/18 Cooper ST max. Not sure for the D300, which is a shame as it’s the D300 that I’ll buy and 18s would...

LR3 transmission slips - service worth it?

You need the correct fluid but from your description. I wouldn’t be surprised if the fluid change doesn’t fix your issue and the box needs rebuilt. So be prepared for that news. a grand is steep for the work. It’s £300-350 here for it with the correct fluid on a mega flush machine.

    New Defender News

Calling Kingsley Holgate a rich poser is about as far from the truth as can be. Away and actually look at what he’s spent his life trying to do and educate yourself from such staggering ignorance.

    New Defender News

Kingsley and his team have arrived back at the factory their cars came from. 163,752km over 3 cars across Africa and now into Europe, and with pictures of jumping over sand dunes etc. they haven’t been shy with the cars and they are heavily loaded. 300,000 people have been helped across this...

    Sooo Many Used Rovers

Classics and modern are chalk and cheese though. Many want a classic for the nostalgia factor, and many are simply an investment since banks etc aren’t giving good returns. even my own 80” is worth far more than what it will cost me to finish it. I can finish it then sell and make several...

    RR Evoque or Discovery Sport

The Mk1 Evoque shares a lot of running gear etc from the LR2. Just in a different body style. Disco Sport doesn’t have much/if anything from the LR2. I have a 2014 Freelander 2 so the Evoque in a slightly more practical shape. For a daily it’s actually pretty good. Still has that decent...

The damper is a curious one. Guy With 4” subframe lift and 1” rod lift, breaks shock. Guy without the above, drives length of Africa in car that’s even more loaded with kit and gear, doesn’t break shock. Now, is it driver error, a faulty batch of parts, or a badly done modification to blame?

    New Defender News

The Kingsley Holgate defenders have reached European soil. After 7 months and 23,000km driving from South Africa to Egypt. Seems they suffered more hassle with shipping and customs with personal belongings stolen and a car window broken then going through Africa.

My plan is to get a 110 to keep stablemates beside my D3 and 80”. Yes the boot is smaller but I can pack up with it or just stick a roof box on the roof rack for mine should it be an issue. Emma and I never had issues with manoeuvrability on the 3 hour test drive, my only take from it was that...

    New Defender News

Someone would have a video of a fatal accident if it was an old defender. There is zero chance of them living from that given how feeble the upper body structure is on a classic. the fact it took 6 rolls, a large lamp post and they walked away with minor injuries is a testament to modern car...

Would the 4” subframe lift and 1” lift roads not have something to do with the failure. Or is that just a coincidence?

    Look at this ?

Can someone explain how having solid axelswill stop a rock getting wedged between the brake callipers and the wheel. Given that solid axels also have wheels and brake callipers. Or is there a rock repellent brake callipers that is only available for solid axels?

    New Defender 110 Electrical Doubts...

Software glitches aren’t just a JLR thing. we have both Ford and Mercedes vans for work. They can equally throw up random glitches. reverse cameras will for no reason not work, but will after being turned off and back on again. they can for no reason proclaim their collision system isn’t...

    New Defender 110 Electrical Doubts...

Not really. the electrics used come from the same factories that supply pretty much all of the European industry. Same with the transmission, it’s a ZF unit that with some tweaks goes into lots of different models from different makers. As for classic defenders and 90/110/127 etc, the wiring...
