Toyota developing solid state battery for EV's.

They've been releasing press releases like this for a decade, at least, hoping people will wait to buy an EV, as their current offerings are hilariously uncompetitive. I hope it happens and improves charging, energy density, etc., but I'm not holding my breath. They said ~5 years ago that...

What Did You Do With Your Lightning Today?

That decision is certainly up to him, but if he's parking gas vehicles in his garage, keeping gas cans in his garage (which is actually prohibited by some insurance companies), etc., then my point is that it's probably not a totally rational/factual decision.

What Did You Do With Your Lightning Today?

Obviously. But that hasn’t actually happened and the point is similar recalls happen for tons of other vehicles, including over 600,000 Kias, Hyundais, and Chevy trucks just in the last week or so, so it’s not at all unique to Lightnings but gets brought up as if it is.

What Did You Do With Your Lightning Today?

Overblown issue. You could say the same for the 570,000 Kias and Hyundais that just got recalled for fire risk and the 40,000 GM trucks that just got recalled, all in the last week or so. Or 400,000 Nissans a few years ago. And this is all from a 30 second search. There are plenty of EV pros...

What Did You Do With Your Lightning Today?

Oh, somehow I missed this thread. I'll have to add to it at some point. I really want to get a Polydrop like the one here to tow with my Lightning: https://expeditionportal.com/polydrops-reveals-new-innovative-design-p19-shorty-trailer/ But we'll see!

Will Prowse of DIY Solar gives the Ford Lightning a run

Interesting. I haven't seen too many common problems with the Lightning, so far, and I follow it pretty closely. Of course, they've only been around for ~10 months, so not a lot of long-term results, yet. Mine's at ~3400 miles and no problems so far, but it shouldn't at that point, obviously!

Can someone smarter than me please explain…

What a strange coincidence that the discussion was EV mass adoption and the effect on the grid, then you say "300,000,000 EVs", which just happens to be almost exactly the number of cars in the US. And why didn't you correct me when I was talking about Florida if you were talking worldwide? Or...

Can someone smarter than me please explain…

Nuclear is 20% of CURRENT US production. Renewable is 20% of CURRENT US production. 10X of 40% (or even 20%) would be way more electricity than we need, even if you assume that we need more production capacity to then store at times where renewable production is lower. You're moving goalposts...

Can someone smarter than me please explain…

Why would we have to increase power supply by 10X for EVs? The average Florida home uses ~37kWh/day. A EV driven 30 miles/day would use about 10kWh. Even if you had 3 EVs commuting every day, that wouldn't even 2X your needed power, let alone 10X, and the refineries won't be using the...

Whoops! Out of Juice? ? Call AAA! ?

You're right. EVs aren't right for every use case, yet. Anyone who says they are is ignorant or lying. Overlanding, along with long-distance towing, is a tough use case for EVs. They're between good and substantially-better-than-gas for a lot of normal use cases, now, but Overlanding is not a...

Introducing the New EV Ford ‘Brick’

I could have stopped at fewer, but my son and I were just having fun, handing out Hotwheels to other EVs that matched their vehicle, and scoping out charging stations for future trips. I don't really need to watch Youtube about Lightnings. I have one and have already done more with mine than...

Introducing the New EV Ford ‘Brick’

For another data point, I just picked up a Lightning for... way less than that... and did a 1,400+ mile trip, hitting 14 different charging stations of the same network that "bricked" this Lightning, and had no notable issues.

There’s been a lot of news recently about the Lordstown EV truck plant developments

All the more recent articles put the base price of the Endurance much closer to $65,000, in which case, it compares pretty poorly against the Ford Lightning Pro that starts at $52k. The Lightning has: More power (452hp vs 440hp) Is far quicker (4.1s vs 6.3s to 60mph) 20% more range: 240 miles...

Funny to think with how few Rivians exist that there are multiple of them driving around Colorado with 275gal water tanks in the back!

Minimum EV Range Requirement for Touring Western U.S.

Oops, you accidentally posted this in a thread about "minimum EV range requirement" instead of the thread where all of us "EV people" are pushing regulations on diesel vehicles and attacking your way of life!
