    F150 - 2.7L vs 3.5L vs 5.0L

Drove 1400 miles over the past two days in my 2022 F150 with the 2.7 and averaged 23.3mpg. This with four passengers and about 1k pounds of gear in the bed. All highway miles at 65-75mph. That is darn good IMHO. Well done Ford. R

Why I switched from a Tacoma to an F150

24+ would be highway MPG under ideal conditions, not real world driving for most owners. shows owners getting about 19mpg for the late model F-150 with the 2.7l eco boost. Still very good given the size and capabilities of the F-150.

Why I switched from a Tacoma to an F150

My 2021 F150 with the 2.7 (FX4 package) has averaged 21.7mpg over 6k miles. A lot of that was highway mileage. I’m very happy with that MPG. I have never seen 24+mpg. R

    2007 KLX-250S Lightweight ADV/DS

That is a great bike and setup for off road exploring and camping. I prefer lighter and smaller 250 class bikes over the 450+ pound turds anytime. R

    F150 - 2.7L vs 3.5L vs 5.0L

Yep, I had to special order my F150 with the 2.7l and the 36gal tank. The 2.7l motor is fantastic and I’m very pleased with the power and the mileage. R

WTB: F150 Super Crew 3.5L 4WD with HDPP

Good luck with your search. F150s are incredibly scarce right now. I’ve had an order in the system for a 2021 for several months and still don’t have a VIN or production date. Others have been waiting more than 6 months………. R

    Sat phones?

I carried a sat phone for probably a decade when in remote areas. Used both the Iridium and Globalstar networks. In two words, they stink. The quality and stability of voice communication on either network was poor. Indeed, the Globalstar network was comically/tragically unreliable. After...

2005 Jeep Wrangler LJ Unlimited (located in So Cal) —- SOLD

This Jeep is in excellent condition. It has the 4.0l motor, automatic transmission and only 38,500 miles. Currie lift kit, Garvin roof rack and Bestop soft top.I bought it 8 years ago as a project/spare vehicle. Since 2012, it has only been driven occasionally and stored in a covered parking...

    Upland Hunting - General

I can’t think of many things I’d rather do than go upland game bird hunting with my family. Beautiful scenery, challenging and rewarding when you get birds. And in CA, finding birds (mainly quail) is a lot of work! I too hope to have a hunting dog someday. R

    Southern California dispersed camping suggestions

All great suggestions, but I would not expect to avoid crowds right now. I was up in Monache week before last and it was PACKED on a Thursday at noon. Every spot was taken. On prior trips I’ve never seen more than 5-6 other groups up there. Ditto for any camping in the Mammoth area. You may...

    Favorite Multi-tool

Sure, the optimal tool is best. But the logistics of keeping a bunch of tools nearby is unrealistic, at least it is for me. I own a bunch of multi-tools are use them constantly. By far my favorite is the Swiss Army Workchamp. Brilliant design, great ergonomics and very functional. R

Total newb needing some Sat phone basics help.

I carried Sat phone for probably 10 years. Tried both the Globalstar (Immarsat) and the Iridium network and went through at least 4 handsets. By FAR, the Irdium network is the best. The Globalstar network was so unreliable that I can’t believe they have not been put out of business by...

The airgun thread - lets see where this goes.

The RWS 45 is a true classic and many are still in use. If you’re interested in another quality spring gun, IMHO you need to focus on the German made or Air Arms (U.K.) products. I’m a big fan of springers and have never had good results with the cheaper department store guns. Avoid anything...
