    2024 Casita 17' Spirit Deluxe

We did similar, but just added a 3” memory foam topper on top of the cushions. -Mike

Which side are shore power and water hookups usually, driver or passenger? Do camp spots have a standard?

Driver’s side for sure. If you will never camp in a campground and will never sell or pass the vehicle down, then do whatever you want. Anything other than driver’s side makes no sense to me, but I frequent campgrounds and can’t imagine anyone who does wanting the hookups anywhere except...

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

Knowing how much thought he puts into things, I’d bet he knew what he was doing from the beginning. Drawing out the decision and talking about the alternatives is good for audience engagement. -Mike

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

I was able to dig up some old pics of the setup…

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

Even cheaper you can do what I did with my old pop-up camper trailer (disclaimer: not my idea, but I did build/install one in my camper)… Buy a cheap slop sink from your favorite big box home improvement store. Cut down the sides to fit it into a dinette bench seat (use some wood to reinforce...

    EV acceptance is peaking

It is most definitely NOT peaking. There is just only so much demand for high priced vehicles and that’s the market in this country where EVs really started to get some traction. As technology improves, prices drop and manufacturers do a better job providing the correct size/price vehicle for...

Thoughts for an Overlander in today's market? Suggestions?

Yeah, was thinking Honda Ridgeline myself. Can’t beat it for long highway miles and low cost of ownership. -Mike

Custom Trailer to haul "Toad" vehicle (vs flat-tow)

@driveby nailed it. If that’s your use case, 4-down is absolutely the best way to go for the reasons given. -Mike

    Land Rover ideas for Jeeps

My big complaint with that setup would be the amount of space all that hose would take up. Seems like a lot of space to waste to maybe save a few minutes of time. -Mike

    Chevy Avalanche overland possibilities

I doubt you’ll find anything that will work with the Avalanche other than a Phoenix: If it were me and just one or two people, I’d prefer a Suburban and build out the interior vs an Avalanche with a...

    Solid human waste disposal/containment?

Americans have been throwing human feces in the trash since at least 1948, presumably in every state. My portable waste disposal system of choice is the porta-potty FWIW. -Mike

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

We did this a few times with our minivan camper… just ran the engine/AC for an hour or two before bedtime. Lots less expensive to do that than buy a 12V AC for the few nights a year it’s needed. I recommend having a CO2 monitor in the interior if/when you do it. -Mike

Hard-Sided Pop-Up Camper by Hiatus Campers

It is great that we actually have choices! You just need to pick one that compromises the least on the things that are most important to YOU. -Mike

    2024 Tacoma

Yeah, I don’t see the xtracab lasting very long. It will be self fulfilling prophecy sales flop. Without the suicide doors, it really defeats the purpose of the extra space as it’s impossible to get things back there, especially coolers/fridges and dogs, which they specifically call out. -Mike

    Add water tank gauge?

No, they have one for plastic water/holding tanks. They have an adhesive and are designed to stick to the bottom. No firsthand experience, but I’ve heard good things about them. -Mike

    Bear proofing on vehicle-based expeditions?

They may keep odors out to humans, but not bears. The reason most bear-proof containers work is not because they block smells, they don’t. Bears can still smell what’s in them, the containers are just durable enough to outlast the bear’s interest and require opposable thumbs (and/or tools) to...

Fresh water tank access ports —- yes or no

@jim65wagon brings up a good point… you WILL want to install a drain in it (separate from the pump intake). -Mike
