    72 IH + ‘85 Alaskan = Questionable Judgment...

Got out and about in North Park, CO: No issues other than the ongoing war with this gearbox: I dread every shift I have to make like a tax audit. There is simply no way I can four-wheel this thing until I make my peace with it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    1974 Alaskan Camper 8ft Cab-over Restoration

The material (Hemet Valley RV, IIRC) is not cheap, and the shipping is really expensive due to the size of a roll of camper skin. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    1974 Alaskan Camper 8ft Cab-over Restoration

Nice project. Saw that on FB, if I’m not mistaken. You might give some consideration to linear actuators to raise the top, especially if the hydraulic system is faulty. I’d love to swap over to LA’s: faster to raise the top EVENLY, and hydraulic fluid and its potential for a mess (my subfloor...

    A Few Auxiliary Battery Questions

    A Few Auxiliary Battery Questions

It looks like I was barking up the wrong tree: the water pump and furnace were still powered by the original undersized Alaskan wiring which takes a roundabout route from the battery to these devices, and grounds through the outer aluminum skin. I finally did what I should have originally and...

    A Few Auxiliary Battery Questions

Because the BB was the subject of the conversation at $925? The Duracells are 105ah, BTW. If you’ve got some information to share in a civil and respectful manner I’m all ears; it’s why I started this thread, after all. If those simple stipulations don’t work for you, save your energy and go...

    A Few Auxiliary Battery Questions

I am not discounting any of the information you’ve provided on lithium batteries; indeed, I have batted the idea around several times UNTIL price came up. I simply cannot justify the breathtaking expenditure, no matter what features are included. This is a recreational vehicle, after all. These...

    A Few Auxiliary Battery Questions

Thank you for the information. As I said, I’m not real sure of the charge system voltage, because I can’t remember it. Important info, to be sure, but my fading memory seems to give little consideration to the importance of the information it deletes. I’ll take a look at that voltage this...

    A Few Auxiliary Battery Questions

Thank you for the reply. “Aged out” is what I suspected, and they have sat long periods without a charge, through several winters. I didn’t know topping off the charge regularly was a good idea. Oh well. As for the lithium batteries, though I do appreciate the advice, the buy-in as I’m aware...

    A Few Auxiliary Battery Questions

I have two Duracell 2018-vintage gr 31 AGM’s for house batteries, and they just don’t seem to get fully charged on the road. They charge off a Powermaster 100A 12si alternator through a Victron isolator at 13.7 to 14.2 v (IIRC; the truck is quite a ways away from where I’m working right now)...

Yeah, it gets really steep with tight curves right there. I went through there last week with a new fuel pump configuration, and had no problems. I also made sure to shift to third well in advance, for peace-of-mind, if nothing else. Sailed right through. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I’ve come to realize the chances of getting such a helping hand are inversely proportional to the size of the local population. Country folk tend to take care of their own, and an IH with Wyoming plates must have meant a was a dues-paying member of the community. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Seeing as how I had to be towed up a really steep grade west of Laramie after the fuel pump overheated again, I relocated it and took the opportunity to upgrade to a quieter one: Someday, I’ll cut off those u-bolts. Oh, and thank you to a very kind local: Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Flatbed build, clearance between truck and camper? Alaskan and 2018 Silverado

I have to disagree with such an absolute: my 8’ CO is an inch or so above the cab, and I have had no issues whatsoever with that clearance. This does include four-wheeling. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Brake time: A leaky master cylinder and old brake hoses were the problems. I got one hose done: The other had a flare nut on it that would not budge in a location that was just barely accessible, so I guess that’ll have to do for the time being. I’d have to cut the brake line to get a...

On that drive, a sticky throttle cable was driving me crazy. It would stick at about 1700, and I’d have to pry up on the pedal with my foot to close the throttle. Good fun with a standard transmission. I pulled over twice, and could not duplicate the problem. When I got home, I tried to...
