Off-road tear drop trailer material size?

Not knowing your design, or how much you like rum, I'd go with 2"x3"x1/8". That should be plenty strong enough.

Lot of work there. Turned out great!

    PCO6's Trailer Build

Thanks Dan. I have a big "pile". I need more projects! The reason this one is not going as quickly as I would like is that I'm doing a Jeep XJ at the same time (new floors front to back, cargo area floor, rockers, bumpers, etc.). I just returned from a camping trip without the trailer...

    PCO6's Trailer Build

Johnny Yuma - Looking good. Very similar proportions to mine. I've been making progress and an update to this thread is overdue.

NC - Titling/Registering Custom Build trailer

This won't help most of you but registering a home made trailer in Ontario is ridiculously easy. Basically show up, tell them what colour it is, pay a one time fee of $25 and you're done. It doesn't have to be finished ... or even started. You could have a dream about building a trailer one...

    Trailer floors?

^^^ Nice thing too is that one side is adhesive. Just peel off the paper and stick it to one of the 2 materials before you attach them. It's also easy to cut if you want narrower width pieces. ... and no mess compared to caulking!

    Trailer floors?

I have a steel floor and box frame with aluminum walls. I use 2" wide pipe wrap between the 2 materials where they overlap and have no problems with moisture or corrosion. Places like Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. sell it ...

    Burley_Industries prototype expedition trailer

Nice build. Great photos and explanations. I decided to go with a side swinging tailgate for the reasons you mentioned above. My box is about 20" high and with bottom hinges the tailgate would have to open and rest fully down to provide easy access to the box interior. The best thing...

    Officially a trailer owner

Just curious ... did you purchase it in Ontario? Nice looking trailer.

How did you build your tailgate on your trailer?

I opted for a side swing tailgate mainly because it would be easier to get things in and out of the trailer without having to reach over the tailgate. I also wanted to hang things on to the open tailgate. Here's what it looks like from the outside. I used Jeep TJ hinges which are plenty...

A girl with an idea, coming to fruition

That looks great. You're off to a good start! I used the same fenders on my trailer. If you want to gain a bit more clearance it's quite easy to do. Snip them in the spots shown below (front and back sides) and then widen the base to whatever distance you like. The fenders will become...

Tongue Jacks - show me what you're running

Mine's still under construction. Hope it works! It's a 1,500 marine jack with a 8" dia. with 4" wide solid plastic wheel.

    Trailer Jack with Off-Road tire?

That's good to hear. I have what appears to be the same one on my trailer (1,500 lb. marine jack with a 8” dia. x 4” wide wheel/tire). My trailer is still under construction so I haven't had a chance to test it yet. My build ...

    Trailer sauce advice

I'm curious about this too. I built my utility trailer using the same basic design as above and welded the frame in the spots where they say not to. I also welded the undersides of the contact points in the same locations. It's seen a LOT of use over the past 5 years and although most of...

    LETS SEE YOUR TRAILERS!!!!

I built this utility trailer 4 or 5 years ago ... It was a fun project and I decided to build this one for camping ... It's a driveway project and I had to take a break over the winter. I'm back at it now though and I hope to be able to put it to use this summer. Here is my build thread...

    Post your tents

Nd4SpdSe - I see that you were at Mosport on the outside heading into corner 2. I took the shot below in September when I camped on the inside of corner 2. I usually go a few times a year. I'll look for you next time!

    Redeth's Overland Trailer Build

I installed a similar lock on my trailer tailgate. The first thing I did was make sure that I could get replacement keys cut for it ... and I did. Several "off-shore" locks that are available today have stamped keys and they can't be duplicated according to a few of the locksmiths I have...
