Any Fly Fishing / Overland Addicts

Great looking T4R. I picked up a fly fishing rod and a couple of flies a few years back. I've learned to cast it (somewhat...) and have used it a few times on local ponds. To date, I have caught 1 fish, see below. However, I have big plans to hire a guide that can really show me the ropes...

    Learn to Sail?

You got it. Trying to finish a couple of projects on the house and clear a little room in the shop but I do plan to building one.

    Learn to Sail?

I googled "Puddle Duck Racers" and my first thought was "oh man, thats an ugly little boat." The more I spent looking at them the more I like them. I went down a YouTube rabbit hole and watched many build videos. I've got the skills, tools, and space to build that. That may be exactly the...

    Learn to Sail?

Well... The Holder 14 found a new owner before I could get to it. That is OK! I think it might have been more of a project than I realistically could handle right now. The search continues...

    Learn to Sail?

I figure that will turn out to be right. I wasn't really looking for a project (nor have I informed by bride of said project) but I like the look of it and if it floats and gives me a summer of fun without costing me too many dineros I think it could be worth it. Maybe something better will...

    Learn to Sail?

Great information in this thread and really appreciate everyone's input. I am exploring all the avenues and things mentioned. I am hopeful to take a couple of basic courses for certification between now and early next summer. I also stumbled on a 14' boat a couple of hours away that I am...

    Learn to Sail?

Thanks for the quick replies. I have gained something from each and will do research on all of the boats mentioned. I'd like to clear up my location and plans. For the next 5 or so years I will be confined to local lakes within a couple of hours of me. I'd like to use that time to learn the...

    Learn to Sail?

For the past few years I have been drawn to sailing. Somehow, I have gotten old enough where I can see retirement as a real option ( a few years down the road). I would like to spend some time before that point learning the basics of sailing so when I do retire I might could have the option to...

    Mountain Bikes and Overlanding Rigs

My son and I both run Giants. The little one runs a Cannondale. We’ve used several setups. Currently running a Kuat rack that I got for dirt cheap because it had been wrecked. $40 in parts from Kuat and it’s back to 100%. 🤞🏻. This works great on the Subaru Outback. Other methods have been a...

OBs and OBWs: Outback, Outback Wilderness

Awesome ride, love the color and the roof setup. I am looking hard at an OBW for my next DD and adventure rig. It appears to be just about the perfect vehicle to perform those two roles. Thanks for sharing!

    Hill People Gear Umlindi Backpack

It has been a good setup just too many backpacks in the gear closet and funds needed for other projects. Thanks for the bump!

    Hill People Gear Umlindi Backpack

Thinning out the gear closet. Up for grabs: V1 Umlindi setup. Includes: Original and upgraded frame sheet Belt and two bottle holsters Line pocket. Talk me out of a Chevy Trail Boss Duramax 3.0

I read up on this issue. I'm no expert by any means but supposedly in the latest generation the belt is good for 200k miles. Warranty on that drive train will at least cover you for 100k miles.

Talk me out of a Chevy Trail Boss Duramax 3.0

It's the only option that makes sense for me right now. The way I look at it the truck is worth ~$3500 as it sits. I think I can put the money in to fix it (let's say $10k) and sell it for $13,500. So either way it's worth $3500. Hopefully, I can get it fixed and drive it for a year or more...

Talk me out of a Chevy Trail Boss Duramax 3.0

That's the question I have been noodling all day. I think the truck is probably worth around $3500 in current condition. That is not enough trade-in to put the TB in my (comfortable) price range. My current plan (subject to change, ask my wife) is to put a new engine in it and drive it until...

Talk me out of a Chevy Trail Boss Duramax 3.0

162k. Typical cam and lifter issues that the internet says the Rams are prone to. Mechanic said he hoped it was just top end but there is metal in the oil pan and he said exactly what you just said. For the cost of the parts we can put a full replacement in it. I didn’t see the turbo 4 on the...
