Where to service drum brakes on 1989 MB 1017A?

Hi Gary. Just read through this thread. The vibration you describe could have been caused by dragging shoes. If the rear brake shoes were not fully released when your truck was towed to the workshop, there would have been heat buildup from the binding shoes on the drum whilst in tow. When...

Hi Aleksey. Good to see you still have the truck. Are you still running trips? Stunning scenery as always! :)

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Hi guys! Thanks for the concern. Yup we are both well. We have not long got home from 7 months away up in Broome where we've been driving tour trucks carting passengers around the magnificent Kimberley region. We've covered 11000+kms in our truck, and over 20000kms in Isuzu FTS 800's and...

    pivoting frames and mounting campers

There's an even easier way to decide which of the options will be best for your truck... If there is a tray on it currently, remove it. Then cross axle the cab chassis on a dirt mound or bank and watch how much your empty chassis twists before the suspension moves or a wheel lifts... Our 12...

    No Starter - No Problem

I've seen it done, but never done it. I'd have used the other vehicle in the background to pull the strap... It would have been easier.

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Continuing progress this end. Last week was spent trimming and fitting hinges to the clothes locker lids and battery compartment. Time consuming but needed... On Sunday I cut and positioned the floor planks (3mm industrial floor sheets 1200 x 180mm). Last night (with the help of a neighbour...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

I've been a bit distracted these last few weeks, as the realisation that we have both resigned from good jobs, and actually leave our home for over 6 months (in less than 4 weeks) sets in! But, whilst being distracted, I have been busy! Chappy our truck is now registered and on the road! A lot...

Parts and service for MB SK platform

Hi Pcericm. From what I've learned on here parts for most older Euro trucks are hard to get in the US. However, they are fairly easily found in the rest of the world. There's plenty of SK's and a few NG's still running around locally to me here in Oz, and the main dealer will still get...

Windshield for an LN2 in the USA

No. The Freightliner only shares the same cab as the smaller frame trucks. For our trucks I believe the only other option for us are the Chinese built Bieben Trucks. I'm pretty sure they have both the wide and narrow NG/SK cabs in their range too...

    MB 917 AF in Norway

Stavanger is beautiful! I was there in 2017, with a works trip, and fell in love with the place. Such a great place and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. We headed north from Stavanger on a boat and I could lave lost weeks up there, taking in the scenery.

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

So things have been busy this end. The truck went off to have it's invertor, lithium batteries and 240v stuff fitted... something I could probably work out, but to be honest it's easier paying someone who plays with AC stuff daily to do it. Here's what the inside of our RH locker now looks like...

    Greasing Front Wheel Hubs

Mmmmmm... That makes me think ours are the same, as the swivel housings have universal joints and grease, so there's no way for oil to get to the outer hubs... Another thing on the growing list of things to do!

We came in at 9.3 tonnes, which I have to say was well under what I was thinking it was going to be. By the time its finished I think it'll sit at 10.2 tonnes or there abouts.

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Today was spent out doing some driver training for Wifetec. Whilst out we weighed the truck for the first time. Any guesses at the weight? Bear in mind we had empty water tanks and no kitchen/living in yet, but we did have half a tank of diesel and two spare wheels...

Next up is to get the roof finished externally. Solar panels, and Maxxfan's! The left three panels are wired in series, and the right are also wired in series, making two 'strings'. And the view of the rear!

Time to ponder the WC no more. First in is the conduits for the power, water and drain for the washing machine... With those in, I could work on the surround, and once they were glued (following day) I could cut and fit the outer sheet. This will then have some corner cappings fitted when I...
