I have sort of a unique GMRS antenna question.

Well that is a good experiment. Look at properly shielding and grounding the controllers to block the noise. There is some stuff out there on home installs but honestly I am Not familiar with anyone doing much with with mobile solar yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have sort of a unique GMRS antenna question.

I am thinking that splitting the difference between the cell booster and solar panels should be ok. I’d be more worried about RF noise off the solar panels and will defer to others who have more knowledge and experience with them than I. As for 50w at the windshield, it’s not ideal but it will...

I have sort of a unique GMRS antenna question.

Vehicle 2 and 3 look for an angle bracket off the front quarter panel for an NMO. Run the antenna thru the firewall to the radio when you run the radio power to the battery thru the firewall. Rig 1 all you need is 6-8” of separation from the cell antenna and you are fine. So you can rig it like...

    GMRS Antenna Options

While that is true don’t buy cheap. If you buy cheap expect issues. It’s not that pricey to buy a quality NMO mount from Larsen, Laird or another major commercial dealer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    GMRS Antenna Options

You want an NMO mount because it’s waterproof and a constant impedance. Further, about 400 MHZ the UHF connectors start having issues with loss. That is why radios should have N connectors up that high. Look at Larsen antenna for a good GMRS antenna. They are what the pros use and are in...

    Hema vs Gaia

There are threads on this. The biggest problems with HEMA relate to the price, interface, perceived lack of support and poor maps. Hence most people use Gaia. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    DBR2500 Dual-Band Radio Now Available

Doesn’t appear to have a remote head. That and it’s a rebadged cheap Chinese radio. Waste of money. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    New 2012 4Runner

Mother nature and I have had different ideas of what the weather should be like on the weekends. While I love winter, the idea of standing in 35mph winds gusting the 50 with windo chills below zero......or rain storms with very chilly heavy rain..... isn't really high on my fun list. Hoping to...

Looking for a solid APRS rugged handheld radio

Best of the best is the Kenwood HTs D7, D72, D74. They have the best implementation of APRS. Yaesu never did a complete implementation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Seatback Cover/Organizer

I've looked at the MOLLE seat backs. They look like you connect to them with velcro. Is that so? I am concerned if that is the case he will knock things off a lot.

    Seatback Cover/Organizer

So we just picked up a new 2012 Toyota 4Runner SR5. It has an all black interior which is to say it has an interior which shows most mud once it has dried to a nice brown. I have a 5 yr old who is going to be quite tall it seems and is growing like a weed. Sometimes to get comfy due to sore legs...

    Fishing apps?

Well we live in Northern VA now. Not a lot of options generally due to lots of urban areas around us so if we combine a bit of travel with fishing we are looking at either PA or WV. Little guy is old enough that this spring I'll take him out and start showing him how to use his fishing rod and...

    New 2012 4Runner

So took a look today and looks like if I dremeled a plastic bit away I can do a similar mount. I’ll have to play around and see what works. Thanks all! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    New 2012 4Runner

The other place I thought of was just in the hood itself. The thickness of the hood is not an issue but the degree to which the antenna would annoy me is debateable. (I hate dirty windshields never mind an antenna in my line of site.)

    New 2012 4Runner

Mike, do you have a shot under the hood? On the 4Runner that area looks like plastic if I recall. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
