Which rear diff locker or limited slip best for snow and twisty paved mountain roads?

Thanks for the invite Rockhounder. Yup, ours is stick framed with 2x4...not nominal but true to size. Built in '33 and our family bought it in '46 after the war. Have tugged and pulled at it but still not a straight corner. Just adds to the "hominess". Just finished re-siding and re-roofing for...

Which rear diff locker or limited slip best for snow and twisty paved mountain roads?

Thanks for the tip on the shop, Rockhounder. We have an old cabin in Green Valley Lake we're rehabbing at the moment. You're correctomundo about road conditions...constantly changing throughout the day as snow/ice fall, melt, and then refreeze. Good luck on your selection. Although I have an...

Still a demand for Baja style campers?

    Oh yes indeed. :sombrero:

What can I do for $1000?

Not sure how "tired" your 5.0 is but even going from 31s to 33s may affect the "drivability" just enough to really bother you. When I did almost the same thing you are considering, I ended up regearing, forcing me to reach deeper into my wallet and dropping fuel efficiency just a bit. But...it...

Northern Montana and the Canadian Rockies, August 2015

Beautiful shots, thanks for sharing. Takes me back to 1975 when I lived in Calgary for 6 months. My buddy and I canoed Lake Louise (in a storm...DUMB!) and actually scrambled across the moraine at the end of Moraine Lake. Nothing like walking across an ice field with water running underneath...

    Demise of Callen Campers?

Re: Belair shells. The design and construction are very old school. Small "stick" construction using staples and then covered by aluminum sheeting. Reviews on how well they hold up under off-road conditions vary widely. I will say this: in my experience the company is very responsive to...

2015 GMC Sierra z71 Half ton Expedition Build

My KO2s are great so far. I don't think you'd be making a mistake by going with them. :sombrero:

Desert explorer, 04 ford ranger build

FWIW, I have the Auburn on my Chrysler 9.25 rear. I like it...behaves when not needed and actually works (within its design limits) when it is needed. Detroit TruTrac is something else you might want to consider...gears vs. clutch plates. Goos luck with your build. :sombrero:

    Is my truck good?

You've got plenty of truck. ARB even makes a locker for your rear diff if you ever get to the point where you think you might need one. You've already gotten excellent advice from previous posts...drive it, see what type of camping you like (tent or maybe a shell), and go have fun. :sombrero:

    Eagle Cap Wilderness, OR

Doing some research on the same area. In general, no vehicles in the wilderness area. There are some roads leading up to the wilderness with campsites. Expand your search to Wallowa Mountains...there are a bunch of roads to the east of Eagle Cap including the Hells Canyon area of the Snake...

    Plasti-Dip interior of a canopy/shell/topper

Indoor/outdoor carpeting from Home Depot or marine carpeting from West Marine (or any marine supply). I have a 17-year old SnugTop with the factory installed carpeting and I can still hose it out. Makes it much nicer inside when camping/sleeping and will still hold up to abuse. :sombrero:

    Baja Style Truck Camper Build

Interested in seeing the interior and the skeleton. I've come to the conclusion that I will have to build my own, also. Nice job! :sombrero:

Realistically...how often do you use your hi-lift?

Never...and I hope it stays that way. But like the AX card...I never leave home without it. :sombrero:

    New BFG All Terrain Design?

I've noticed about a 1.0 mpg decrease in my overall mileage each tank. 285/75/16 LRE. Tires still sound "sticky" at low speed, probably siping. Overall, I like them. Big improvement in ride comfort compared to the Nitto Terra Grapplers I was running. Not much offroad action on them...yet. :sombrero:
