4 Door JLU Gutter Mount Roof Rack?

Depends on how your gutters are attached and what they are made of. Land Rovers use gutter rack mounts but they are metal gutter like a van and have a pretty decent weight load. Here is a note from another outfit, Warrior products, that does a gutter mount roof rack

Most reliable US spec Land Rover?

Well my 04 D2 is just about to hit 300000 KM, so about 186000 miles. I did have to head gaskets but other than that just 20 year old parts starting to fail. It has served me well. But really it is about maintenance, I see a lot of Toyota product overheated or broken down on mountain passes here...

    Maybe New LR4 Owner??

I have traveled with a lot of Lr3/Lr4's that are well looked after and have done excellent service for their owners. IF you look after it and maintain it is no less reliable than anything else, but you need define long trips. I have spent 8 days largely off-road covering about 900 miles with...

New tent lightweight and everything is replaceable -FeatherLyte Outdoors

Looks good but how waterproof is the underside, I am in the Pacific Northwest and rain is a pretty constant thing. I would not be removing the tent for most of the year

Sleeping in vehicle in black bear country (what to do with food)

@ThundahBeagle The mom and cubs black bears, the dogs incidents were in the back country black bears as well. When lived in town in Mission BC I got black bears on my deck pretty regular, used bang on the glass, they would leave but at pretty slow pace. Mostly young ones, maybe 160 lbs ,but...

Sleeping in vehicle in black bear country (what to do with food)

@ThundahBeagle I should have been more clear a barking dog at a distance, is not generally a problem but I have seen dogs charge right up to a bear that was moving off. The bear did not take it well, it cuffed the dog hard and broke one of the dog's legs, I have also seen a bear chase the dog...

Sleeping in vehicle in black bear country (what to do with food)

Lots of good stuff here, but a point on dogs. With a solitary bear a barking dog moving towards the bear will often cause the bear to go elsewhere. Against a mother and cubs it can end very badly for your dog, not matter how big a dog you have a 300 lb bear that wants to hurt the dog will win.

The most dreaded Land Rover of them all…the P38!

Well tinted windows were not generally a factory option in 99. And a roof rack for those it tough, I think you an pretty much only use the style that "clips" the top of the door sill. I think but do not for sure, but I think Discovery 1/2 use the same size lug nuts so maybe a wrecker?

    Oops

There is an override for the e-brake, you want to look that up it is pretty critical you know how to disengage it with the engine off. Those cross over pipes have been a problem since the LR3, you might want to see if the is an aluminum aftermarket replacement.

Mobile radio powering down intermittently with Renogy Battery

@James86004 I would suspect the battery then, given it works just fine with the Odyssey AGM

Mobile radio powering down intermittently with Renogy Battery

Both those radios ideally want around 13.8 volts to operate optimally, the amp draw is between 11 and 14 amps on hi power transmit, .5 on receive. If the Radio only dies during transmit it is an amp draw issue. If the radio just shuts down my bet is that Renogy cannot provide the required...

    12v portable fridge

I bought an FC40 it seems to work well, it has only been on a couple of trips so far but has been trouble-free. Ran for a week in the house when we replaced a fridge, same no issues. Not long term data but all I can contribute

What is y’all’s overland tool kit of choice?-Modern Land Rover

Everyone is different but think about the things you can actually fix yourself laying on the ground in the middle of nowhere. A Code reader is the most important tool and you should always have it in the truck, it needs to be able to rest suspension faults at the minimum - most likely you have...

    Offroad jacks... really?

They sink into soft ground just a well as anything else, I watch I guy in a Toyota dig a hole to put one in then watched it sink into the sand on a lake beach. Now to be fair it stopped sinking sooner than a hi-lift, Bottle jack or scissor jack would have, on a hard surface they are probably...

Are older Land Rover Discoveries really that bad? How do they compare to contemporary Toyotas?

@Boss Hog the 4.6 had a bad rep for slipped liners and cracked blocks. But it was down to 2 issues, they were run hotter for California emissions when sold they had a 190 thermostat and ran around 212-215F - (244F is the overheat light) any cooling issue tended to create overheating, which...

Rtt on roof gutters on a jeep

Land Rovers do it, but you need to know the load your Jeep gutters can take, old Defenders are 300lbs when moving. Lots of others are sub 100lbs for the same, jeeps are about 85-90lbs all up including the roof rack, so that guy is pretty massively overloaded. The cross bars will be about...

An incident worth talking about. Kinetic Recovery Accident.

I have thought about this for a while, I think part of the problem is a mental disconnect in that people think a hard pull is required. If you think about it, we all know a winch is a slow pull, a tug should be the same thing, a slow pull to assist the stuck vehicle in getting some movement...
