    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

I do not have a shore power charger and didn't do much research on integrating one. I know there are some by Victron and surely others that are supposedly designed for LiFePO. Victron and others sell complete packages (battery, chargers, etc.) that are plug and play but not at all cheap. If you...

Examples of hard side pop up camers?

See my build for v2.0 in my signature below. Mine is a combo hard side and soft side but the approach I used for the hard side part could be used alone I think. Best of luck with the build, hope you document things here. As you have found, not a ton of info on DIY hard side pop-ups out there.

Such a cool build! Thanks for sharing. Makes me wish I had used more wood on the interior, looks amazing. matt

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Hey Wikel, Wasn't ignoring you, been a crazy couple weeks here... The same night you posted this message we evacuated in the middle of the night due to the Thomas Fire. Left in a hurry without the camper (and hardly anything actually) but was hugely relieved to find our house was okay and...

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Okay, the long awaited update on the lithium battery charging and use. Alternator Charging: The first key, in my case, was to disable the trucks (2010 Frontier) clever alternator management system. I'm not totally clear on what the alternator is doing, but it is supposedly optimizing battery...

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Thanks everyone! Yep, got details to report. I'll make that the next post. I'd be psyched to check out your rig too. We're up in Carp most every weekend. I'll send a PM (if I can figure that out). Nope, not us. Cool that there is something else like this out there.

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

It's been hectic. The last of many todo lists: All systems seem to be working, for now... We depart in the morning. Colorado Rockies is the destination. There will be lots of build details to catch up on when we return. Thanks for all the positivity everyone! matt

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Standard 100% cotton, 10oz weight. That's the heaviest I thought we could sew. Might not last a long time but it should get us through a few trips. Acrylic (Sunbrella) was 3X the price and it seemed like getting a tight fit would be harder since it seems to have almost no stretch to to.

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Here's how we did the canvas (hope this makes sense): The canvas is sandwiched between aluminum on the inside and outside. Inside is seen here: The upper is 3/4" X 3/4" angle riveted and epoxied in to the roof. Lower is 1-3/4" X 1-3/4" angle riveted and epoxied to the slide up. The screws...

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Been busy. Too busy for regular updating here. I will catch up on the details eventually. Interior is almost done. Propane system is all working (stove and heater) and leak-free. Water heater works but not getting more than a dribble out of the thermostatic mixer. Ordered a replacement mixer...

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Yes, the lifters for the slide-up are spring assisted. When they are fully collapsed they have essentially zero lift. Upward force kicks in pretty quick though as the lift begins. To start the slide-up moving, I get inside and do a squat basically, pushing up on the roof. First couple inches...

Thanks willys! Another quick shot. First time it's been slid up and popped up. Feels really roomy inside.

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Lots of progress to catch up on but not enough time in the day lately. Big news today worth sharing, Pro-Rig meets Greystoke (yes, we give cheesy names to our vehicles too :sombrero:) Interior is almost done. Pics to follow. Nine days and counting until departure... matt

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Few more updates... Confirmed that I can still get the slide-up to slide up with the extra weight of the roof on there. Required getting inside and using a bit of muscle, but it's up. Lifters still holding it in the up position. Good! Upper and lower door halves installed. Still need to...

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Got the windows in. Slid right in and all the screw holes lined up perfect. Expensive little buggers (Seitz/Dometic) but easy install, built in screen and shade and double pane. Happy with them. Next step was to get the roof up and on. Looks a little space shippy :) Hinges installed...

Anodized aluminum feels the smoothest based on my non-scientific analyses of random scraps of stuff I have laying around. Don't have the right size though. I'll see what my local metal place has in stock later in the week.

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Just did some comparisons with some scraps and I can feel the difference - metal to UHMW feels way "slidier". Thanks for the expert input! I think I can drill out some rivets and make a switch. Been busy out in the garage, updates to follow...

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Glad to hear you're enjoying it! Good point on the plastic rubbing, but I don't think 18 inches of slide will build up any heat. Your comment got me doing some research on UHMW though and it turns out it is known for it's relatively high rate of thermal expansion (compared to most metals for...
