    2022 Nissan Frontier unveiled

Another possibility is the electric fans can't pull enough air through a stacked setup. There, I'm helping the OEMs justify their tall hoods.

    2022 Nissan Frontier unveiled

So I wonder if they designed a tall hood, and said "might as well stack the intercooler underneath". Or did they design the intercooler placement and then the tall hood to accommodate it? The LBZ Duramax and PS 6.0 both have much larger intercoolers than an EB, yet had no issues stacking it in...

    Looks can be deceiving, let's look at radiator core size on Rockauto. 2017 F150 EB2.7: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=8612720&cc=3436061&jsn=1363 34.75" x 17 11/16" 1999 Dodge V10: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=3760326&cc=1354205&jsn=1539 36" x 19 7/16" 2007...

    2022 Land Cruiser 300 series

Funny enough, I know Aussies that would absolutely drool over our 400+ hp diesel "utes", with solid axles, that can legally tow a 17 ton "caravan". We sure do love to lust over unobtanium, even when we have it better.

    2022 Land Cruiser 300 series

Yes, but, installing a lift kit, oversized tires, offroad bumpers also "risks poor performance, broken or prematurely worn parts, and legal liability in the case of an accident." Yet we all do it. It's part of the risk of this hobby. Believe me, any of our modified rigs would fail an OEM...

How to ID F150 max payload package?

To be fair, the HDPP is like a light 3/4ton, or 5/8 ton, like Titan XD. It's better than 20+ yr old 3/4 tons in every way except rear axle capacity (even old 3/4 tons had full floaters) A triple axle toy hauler is still pushing its limit though.

    Question about Ram HD

I was also going to guess radius arms. The 2013+ design under hard articulation have known to twist the axle tubes so hard the welds broke at the diff housing.

    New Defender News

Bingo. If we look close, there're many clean cuts / shears in the sheet metal. A crash does not shear a panel clean. That's been cut up by jaws of life / hydraulic rescue shears.

Jeep just released a JL with a payload increase of 500lbs

On light trucks, difference between GVWR and sum of GAWRs is always wishy washy. Appears to be highly arbitrary based mostly on marketing and emissions needs. Remember, GAWR factors in all suspension, braking, and tire loading. I understand the COG / frame / vehicle dynamics argument, but...

Suburban vs Excursion for Family of 8

If you can't stand skoolies, what about a 4x4 van, like E350 extended (think Sportsmobile)? I can't imagine 6 kids in a Burb, unless it's a city trip. I've done overlanding with 2 dogs and 3 adults in an Expy / Burb, and it was crowded, with gear packed to the roof. Maybe look into a 2500, at...

How Important Is Ramp Travel Index (RTI)?

All else being EXACTLY equal? Sure, more RTI the better. Now show me 2 rigs, identical down to center of gravity and dimension, that only differs in RTI. H1 / Humvees have an RTI of like -300...Look up those New Zealanders (I think) crawling one up a huge rock step where a fully locked solid...

Bronco Killer: Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 470HP 392 CONFIRMED for 2021 Q1 sales.

If money was no subject (but we'd all be on Learjetportal instead...), I'm sure no one would complain. Hell (pun intended), give me a Hellcat JL. But given the context of this forum - overland travel, I think the money can be better invested elsewhere. Tommy @ TFLT estimates $60 - $70k. On...

Bronco Killer: Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 470HP 392 CONFIRMED for 2021 Q1 sales.

Cool for what it is, an overlander it is not. No one complains about too much power, but do complain about lack of range. My truck gets worse mpg, but I have 3000 lbs payload. I carry 320L of fuel for extended bush trips. The Jeep won't have the payload/ space.

How Much Worst is an 80 in an Emergency Maneuver (swerve) than a 100?

Static COG is not an absolute measure of handling. Let's take an extreme example: a BMW X5M, Jeep Trackhawk, AMG SUVs, etc., have high CG than a cheap subcompact. No question which handles better. I do think an equally modded 80 vs 100 is splitting hairs. Few instances where a 3" lift 35"...

    Removable front winch mounting

This might be a bulky solution, but if you have a heavy truck (1 ton plus, mog, Fuso, etc.), it's super cheap compared to an engine driven hydraulic pump: https://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/196cc-hydraulic-power-unit/A-p8682742e About $400 US when on sale (Princess Auto is like our...

    Removable front winch mounting

Yes, but it doesn't stay there long at winching current! When I hooked up a carbon pile tester to my alternator, it took half a second to dip below 13v once I exceeded the alternator output. Another second or so (@ 400 amp) before system voltage is below 12.0v I think a healthy battery (like...

    Removable front winch mounting

I realized the winch situation is more voltage drop limited than thermal, hence I used the resistance on your chart to calculate v-droop. I did forget to include the negative cable though, so for my arbitrary 10% v-droop limit, and 24' run (ext cab long bed), I'd need something ridiculous like...

Electric Hummer pick up truck teaser pic

Guess depends on the use. For 99% of drivers, and day trip off road, the range should be enough. For longer expedition type trips, where I may put in 500 miles a day connecting to the next leg, it is a LOT more convenient to fill a gas tank. Here in BC, which is the closest thing to the wild...

    Removable front winch mounting

BTW, just realized you said the ampacity chart is based on indefinite thermal limit. Let's try to find the voltage drop limit then. Let's assume 10% voltage drop (any more the winch would loose too much line pull). Using 12v nominal and 450 amp as our current: R = 12/450 x 1000' / 24' = 0.100...

    Removable front winch mounting

I agree, but the SB 175 will hit some ampacity limit around 250 amp, because if you look at the SB350 spec: https://www.andersonpower.com/us/en/resources/SBseriesResourcesPage.html The same 1/0 cable hits thermal limit @ 250 amp with the SB175, but 300 amp with the SB350 Either way, looks...
