Need help deciding, Why a Tacoma over a full size truck?

The OP asks for Taco owners. You're not interested in hearing from fullsize owners that used to own a Taco?

F150 with the Heavy Duty Payload Package?

Strange lugs might be a pita to find wheels for. Research that. If power, towing, large tires, camper, lockers are mentioned, I'd go straight to a 250.

F150 with the Heavy Duty Payload Package?

I searched for my current truck because of end of the year pricing. Completely basic XL, trying to build a new copy of my dream truck which was a 2001 6.8l F250 Lariat with a rubber floor. An XL today is only leather seats away from being a 2001 Lariat. And I don't like leather seats...

    Ford F550 brush truck?...yes please!

See if you can insure it as a motorcoach. You're permanently putting a box on it anyways. I know some Merc Sprinter guys have done such to save costs with those very expensive rides.

    What are the Ram axles?

    Ford F550 brush truck?...yes please!

On a F550, any Dana 60 diff will work fine. A Yukon Grizzly locker would be a great choice up front. Trutracs are available for the Dana s110 rear. Possibly even an air locker if you buy the whole drop out carrier from a junkyard with a scrapped freightliner. Not sure what axles are...

Try Bundutec. $30k for no shower and roof top AC kill the FWC option for me.

    Thoughts....on what to do.

Sell all, and get a gas 6.2 or 6.8 250/350. The term ''camper'' limits choices. If you're going to be as wide and heavy as a 1ton, minus well make sure it has 1 ton axles and lockers. I'd avoid any 6.0, 6.4.

    2019 F350 4x4 custom HPI flatbed/AT Atlas topper

Depends on terrain and tires. I set a self imposed 10,000# limit on myself when shopping trucks. Right now I don't need a jeep, but an LMTV is too big. I'll build an LMTV before a 550 brush truck. It's 45mph on dirt roads all the way to the TAT from my house. So it's lack of hwy speed...

    Ford F550 brush truck?...yes please!

Can't click the video. But most of our 550 brush trucks are nearly stock over here. Simple lift, giant MT's, DBL design front flares fenders and wheels.. https://www.dbldesign.com/ And special ordering a gas 550 CC, xl, 4X4, isn't as expensive as many think. Adding lockers is though.

    Cummins oil change - synthetic?

True. But keep in mind that light duty is terrible for oil as well. My personal trucks 6.2 only has 13,000 miles. I change the oil every 3000 to keep that watery white shmegma out, that comes from condensation. Time is a monster, as much as towing is.

    Rotella T 5w40 every 7500 is fine.

If you had to pick one: Skid plates or rock sliders?

Skid plates over the fuel tank and xfer case first. Then I'll add one to cover engine oil pan. In my case, that skid isn't large. The radius arms protect under the engine, a bunch. And the exhaust cats reach down and will sing out far before dragging the pan. Sliders really don't...

    2019 F350 4x4 custom HPI flatbed/AT Atlas topper

Oh yeah. Detuned chassis cabs are nice peace of mind. Permanent built motor home things are better off this way. NA gas engines are already detuned. I didn't notice any difference in power with the gas engines. And my diesel makes power when driven properly. It's when I flog it and...

    2019 F350 4x4 custom HPI flatbed/AT Atlas topper

Just weld a sheet of al to smooth out under the porch. Like a skid plate. Although a wheelie bar would be a good laugh. 4.30's almost always are thick cut gears. You'll use a 4.10 and down carrier. They say 4.10 and down, and 4.56 and up, because somewhere out there, some poor bastard...

    2019 F350 4x4 custom HPI flatbed/AT Atlas topper

That's nice. I wouldn't sweat the rear overhang much. It's still plenty high. Chances are, that anywhere it would be a problem for me, a fullsize truck and camper wouldn't make it anyways. Is ARB just checking compatibility before saying they have a locker for the '19+ models? I don't...

    Warranty vs Lift

Mag moss is nearly worthless now. While you're trying to convince them, your truck rots on a lot somewhere. And all electronics issues are ''something ate something'' now. No warranty. There's so many loopholes for the dealer to wiggle through. Warranty doesn't pay good. Blame the...
