Different beast (2006 5.4 E350 Sportsmobile), but I'm pretty consistently getting between 13-14mpg over the 7000 miles I've driven since I completed my swap in November. I haven't weighed, but I'm guessing I'm at about 8300 pounds now. I'm pretty happy with that considering winter driving on...
I'm curious about what you come up with. I'm in the same boat. I like how quiet and solid the E350 is, but it is a drag to drive compared to the Syncro. Also I've noticed that my Syncro attracts cute hippie girls and my van attracts homely dudes.
I just had the same scare with that tranny plug...
To Josh's point about gear ratios. I did find 4.30s. My first set of tires are winter tires (275/70/18 - tallest snows I could find in 18s) and they are 33's. For a car that does a lot of highway miles, I think that ratio is a bit low (high). I would go with 4.10s if I were going to stick with 33s.
That is a wicked-looking stabilizer and diff cover! Although I didn't really think I needed it, I did add a Rough Country dual stabilizer. I can't say I've noticed much of a difference. Still feels good!
Also, I tried a different set of front springs. I originally went with the Moog CC880s that...
Raul - pulling and converting the 4r75 wasn't really a big deal - one weekend - but if you can find a low-mile 4x4 version that would be ideal. Mine only had 42k miles on it and it shifted perfectly, so I wanted to stick with one I knew was good. Total rebuild parts on mine was about $800. I'm...
Would love to see your sway bar mounting pics when you have a chance Josh. On a related note, I installed a steering stabilizer. I haven't driven too much with it yet, but it does seem to dampen things up a bit.
Hey Chris - in the 5.4 4r75 vans, the transfer case sits directly below a floor support. Do you modify that floor support in any way (hammer, section) to be able to get the Tranny/TC combo level?
Hey - glad to see you have a build thread going. Hang in there1 I've had a few hurdles too, but have 1000 miles on mine so far. You're going to love it!
I'll chime in a bit. I have about 1000 miles on my conversion so far. A good 1/3-1/2 of that was on snowy roads. I still have not installed a steering stabilizer nor a sway bar and it drives really well. It tracks perfectly straight. Rides really smoothly on the highway. It is a little bit...
Thanks Michael! It's the selector shaft one. Mine didn't come with a nut - just one of those puch-on type lock washers that loosely secures the bolt. I'll have to track a proper nut down.
Chris or anyone - Can you share share info on how you hook up the NP271 shift position switch? I can't find any schematics on the web. Also, how tight do you make the shifter pivot bolt? Seems like it needs to be a little loose to find the detents in the transfer case. Thanks in advance.
I have to say I'm super pleased with the quality of the parts I got from MG. His service and responsiveness is fantastic as well. I have a text string with MG that has about 40 texts - he has made it so much easier by replying to questions/issues really quickly - usually within minutes.
The...
Hey - that's my van on top. It's a stock Sportsmobile build - came with the van. Dig your van. Wish I would have had the time to do the interior build myself. Good luck with it!
