Long term LR3/Discovery 3 build for everyday life

Aren't these things that can fail on any vehicle? Especially on something 10+ years old. Was it the sway bar or just the sway bar link? That is a lot of steel to rust through if it was the actual bar.

Land Rover Discovery 5 (LR5?) in the wild

I'm sure it's going to be plenty capable. My original post was more about the complete departure styling wise of the new Disco. When you part a D1, D2, D3, D4 next to each other, you can see the similarity and evolution. When you sit behind the wheel of each of them, you can see the evolution...

LR3/LR4: How to find the coveted rear locking diff

Not really. A lot of people replace their donut with a matching 5th. Gotta go by vin or crawl under and locate the locking mechanism to know for sure.

    Paint My Hood

Why not order a pre-cut vinyl? Cheaper, removable, simple. Just make sure to remove the washer jets before you go to apply the vinyl.

    Paint color pole!

A modern color like Nara Bronze or Ipanema Sand would look pretty cool on a D1

Exactly. So by us posting on research websites that suspension bushings are a consumable part that requires replacement ever 80-100K miles we will help to keep the prospective buyers with lady-palms away from LR3s and help assure guys that can grow a grey pube that there won't be much risk in...

Amazon Vehicles - Let's add some helpful reviews!

We get the same posts in these forums every couple of days. Is there a buyers guide for X or what do I need to worry about in vehicle Y or my Z broke and Land Rovers are $#!%! Let's try to fix some of that. It seems like Amazon is positioning itself to be a great resource for people to research...

Land Rover Discovery 5 (LR5?) in the wild

Agreed. Jeep just needs to build the 'Africa' Concept and it will all be over.

Land Rover Discovery 5 (LR5?) in the wild

I really can't get past the way the clam-shell hood flows into the mirrors and then stops abruptly. A Discovery with a rake is no Discovery. I think the new explorer is better looking.

Land Rover Discovery 5 (LR5?) in the wild

Maybe the next Defender will be the LR3/LR4 replacement we are really looking for? I think we can all agree the real Defender is dead and is never coming back, but maybe its replacement will have more in common with today's LR4 and less in common with the Evoque? I guess that's our last hope...

Land Rover Discovery 5 (LR5?) in the wild

It's way too big and they just came out with the Disco Sport. I'll be several years before they revise it. Nope. this is a nightmare of a "Discovery" to replace the LR4.

Land Rover Discovery 5 (LR5?) in the wild

I know people on this board have said this for every new generation of Discovery, but for me I really can't see anything I like about the coming replacement for the LR4. Things I hate: - It's round - It's symmetrical (******!?) - It's bloated - Where the hood intersects with the mirrors and...

LR3/LR4 REQUIRED UPGRADE: Prevent Rear Door Failure for ~$25

It's spring loaded, it has enough tension to keep itself closed and not rattle, but I don't think its enough that it would pull the trim clips. especially since you'd be pulling at a slightly downward angle vs straight out. Or you could go with a push button style release instead of a pull...

LR3/LR4 REQUIRED UPGRADE: Prevent Rear Door Failure for ~$25

I think my solution could be pretty easily adapted for those of you with drawer systems. It would allow you to put the button on the D pillar or next to the storage bins, or really anywhere in and around the cargo area. All you would need in addition to the items I've already linked is some...

LR3/LR4 REQUIRED UPGRADE: Prevent Rear Door Failure for ~$25

I guess I'm wrong on this one, but I for the life of me couldn't figure it out. Especially not well enough to coach my 60yo father through the process over the phone. I don't know how you would pull the carpet away far enough to get enough access since it is hooked around the cable stays for the...

Advice on purchase of 2005 LR3

Read through this: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/122363-D3-LR3-and-RRS-tips-and-what-to-look-for-check?highlight=lr3+buyers+guide Keep in mind that the forums are a place where people come for help when things go wrong, and rarely login just to post about how dependable their...

LR3/LR4 REQUIRED UPGRADE: Prevent Rear Door Failure for ~$25

You cannot remove the trim panel with the door closed, despite the lies youtube has told you. The only option is to drill a hole in your carpet trim. Again, I agree that I could have just reinforced the connection, but that doesn't solve the problem should the battery die. My solution will work...

LR3/LR4 REQUIRED UPGRADE: Prevent Rear Door Failure for ~$25

Yeah. I probably could have stopped at the point where I added some zip ties to support the plastic clip inside the actuator housing, but I really wanted an actual interior handle since why the F does this truck not have an interior handle for the rear doors? It must be one of the only ones.

LR3/LR4 REQUIRED UPGRADE: Prevent Rear Door Failure for ~$25

That was my first thought but I found the latch itself didn't have a lot of room to add a second pull cable. I didn't want to drill another hole in this or add another pull linkage for fear it would cause the latch to bind up and then I would never get my door open. Modifying the actuator...

LR3/LR4 REQUIRED UPGRADE: Prevent Rear Door Failure for ~$25

    11. I decided to avoid modify the recliner pull cable too much. The only thing I did was removed the spring they had around the cable end. In order to mount it into the actuator assembly, I found that the cable clip aligned very well with one of the existing screw positions. I drilled out the...
