    Suzuki Jimny "Expedition" Build

I'm looking forward to seeing how this comes together. I like what I see so far. The heater part is called the core here in the states. Some of them can be very difficult to change. Good luck.

    Random RIG Shots

These are from a day trip this past weekend. I ran about 90 miles of forest service roads in the Francis Marion NF.

    1988 Samurai Tin Top.

Ooohhhh Yeah!!! Back on the ground! I busted my fanny today and got it back on the ground and running. Sorry no step by step pictures, they take too long. Today I finished the front shock mounts, rehung all the brake parts, installed a tach, burned up half the wiring harness because the...

    1988 Samurai Tin Top.

Update time again. This actually happened last weekend but I'm just getting around to posting the pictures. The front axle needed some attention. I pulled it to do the spring and gear swaps, and found sand in the knuckle housings and water in the wheel bearings and hubs. Not good. So, while it...

    1988 Samurai Tin Top.

The pivot for the swing carrier is braced to the top hinge on the rear door. I was initially going to just use a bottom pivot like the ZOR setup, but the rear bumper is flimsy. You can see the brace in this picture.

    1988 Samurai Tin Top.

Scott, I would love to do the entire Trans America Trail with it. Since that won't happen before retirement, I'm looking at running the Trans Eastern Trail - South (TET-S). It's a 1600 mile loop through the southern states. The majority of it is dirt roads and trails through SC, NC, TN, GA, AL...

    1988 Samurai Tin Top.

It was in the way of the rear suspension and had to go. It was on the wimpy side and hung down way too far anyways. It will probably get another one eventually. I have plans for building a small expedition trailer.

    1988 Samurai Tin Top.

The brown Santa showed up today with presents. Since I was already out in the shop, I got the spare tire mounted. One step closer to hitting the trail again.

Post picture of your GPS setup

I'm using a Garmin Nuvi for on road and a 10" ASUS EEE Transformer running Backcountry Navigator Pro for everything else. BNP has Topo and satellite imagery maps loaded for my state at the moment, I will add other states as necessary.

    1988 Samurai Tin Top.

That's another one off the list. On board air. It's a necessity and a little plastic pump just wasn't going to cut it even if I could find a place to put it. First up was where to mount it. Pitching a set of plastic air horns the PO installed and rearranging some wiring netted me a nice open...

    1988 Samurai Tin Top.

Yep, the FB is mine as well. I road raced and autocrossed for 10 years before delving into the world of off road. The FB has a blown engine unfortunately and 12a parts are just about gold anymore. I keep thinking about an engine swap to a V6 or V8. Maybe. Here's the Spitfire. It's also Mazda...

    show me your flex

This is now. I should have the YJ spring conversion done tomorrow afternoon. I'll shoot a after picture as soon as I get a chance.

    1988 Samurai Tin Top.

For some reason I've always been partial to small vehicles. My other money sink is a Triumph Spitfire. The sad part is I'm 6'2" and #270 so I don't exactly have lots of extra room in them. The best part of the Samurai is it will fit down a fire break or ATV trail. That opens up all kinds of...

    1988 Samurai Tin Top.

I meant to add this photo to the last post. It shows how the rack swings clear so the rear door can be opened. Next on the agenda was recovery. I don't have any friends that off road, so I need to be able to get myself out of a jamb. That meant mounting a winch. This one is rated at 8000...

    1988 Samurai Tin Top.

I'm the new guy around and wanted to share my rig with you. I started this build a couple of months ago so for starters I'll bring y'all up to date. I bought this a couple of months ago as a backwoods camping rig. I get tired of noisy campgrounds and wanted to do some dispersed camping in...

Suzuki Owners; Let's see your ExPo Trucks

Marmota, thanks! Yes, they are ProComps in a 285/75-16. Unfortunately they are about done and out of my price range. I have a set of IROK NDs and a 5th wheel on the way for it now. The best of the ProComps will be going in the big empty space on the back as a spare. jpat30, thanks for the...

Suzuki Owners; Let's see your ExPo Trucks

Another Tin Top. I might as well post mine up. New guy on here as well and bought a Samurai, several months ago, to do some camping out in the National Forests. Beating around the internet, I came across a link for the Trans American Trail. That's my goal now, so I'm setting it up now to do as...
