Almost a year after buying the compressor the install is finished! #betterlatethannever
I started by dissecting the loom on my work bench.
I worked out that the loom was going to be approx 5m too short as the compressor is mounted in the rear tool box. I used 5 core trailer wire to extend...
Well a million and one things have occurred since my last update. Largely I've been tieing off loose ends, but some of it is real progress.
Firstly, I wasn't planning on putting on sliders. That was until my better half backed into the factory steps. It looks better now but it's a pain in the...
Ouch! I'm actually quite unhappy with the economy I'm currently getting. Its averaging 11.5-12.5L/100km when it says it should be getting 8's... I should be getting closer to 1500km a tank!
Toyota acknowledged that this discrepancy is a common occurrence, but wouldn't do anything about it. I'm...
So the day finally came! Whoo! CAMPER TIME!!! Well the day finally came in the form of a 1am start followed by 20 hours of driving to pick it up.
First up, though not the most exciting, they repaired the drawer underneath. Now I can fit it back in its original position, even with the bigger...
Sit-rep: the ARB Frontier tank is pretty awesome. 650km and only half a tank gone :)
I grabbed a few minutes and ripped the rear box off.
The CKMA12 compressor mounts nicely up inside the box and won't impact loading the inside up with recovery gear.
Cant even see it when the doors open...
The ute is used for both daily duties and adventures so I really do need the tray. It also houses the water tanks and gives me great storage on a day to day basis. It also means I can continue to fit in carparks with a 2.1m height :)

Thanks nosedive! Been putting a lot of soul and effort into this build.
Long term I'm hoping to drive this rig to Europe so then at least there'll be one! Do you get the Tacoma?

I still haven't gotten round to the ARB video. Promotion at work and the two kids had been keeping me busy.
I have however been buying stuff (thankfully cheap!) on Ebay to resolve issues. I got some heat shield for the breather. All fitted up and I think it'll do the job.
I also have...
I was poking around the engine bay this afternoon (another wiring plan being hatched) and came across a booboo. The shared gearbox and transfer case breather obviously got a little hot and melted!
I've popped in another breather (same type unfortunately), stuck some bigger conduit over the...
I've been feeling pretty low the past few days. Mostly likely because I feel like the hilux build has been compromised by average workmanship. After much thought I paid a visit to ARB this afternoon to talk to them about it.
I'm glad I did. The manager and sales rep were gracious in listening...
I hate leaving my car with workshops... Inevitably they do 90% of the job well and 10% utterly ********. Nicely done @arb.
It's little things, like the "fitted with ARB Frontier tank" decal being applied on an angle (looks slapped on and ********) right through to bigger things such as moving the rear...
I am pretty keen to get offroad and do some serious wheeling and camping. To get there and back I've just booked in a full BP-51 kit that I can use to upgrade the GVM.
The Safari ARMAX snorkel
And 140L frontier tank
Soooo excited!

Sneaking another 20 minutes in this morning made a difference. I managed to get the canopy positioned and bolted down.
While I was at the rubber shop the other day I picked up some toolbox matting. Some quick love from a knife and it fits nicely! Its pretty sticky stuff so should stop gear...
Needs must when the devil drives.
I got sometime on crossroads this afternoon to get the canopy bolted down. Whilst I would have loved to have the time to weld on tabs time got away from me.
Job one: Move the canopy out of the way. Super happy with how light this thing is. It'll be a breeze...
