Cave is an OEM. Our method of manufacturing varies by part of the unit and will change over time based on what makes sense for customers and the business. OEMs in all sorts of industries use contract manufacturers for parts of their product. We are no different. Any issues a customer would...
Our prototype had that gap between the storage in the camper and the cab of the truck. The current design has larger upfront storage which eliminates that gap.
Cave is not a distributor or dealer. While aspects of the shell look like what you have in the photo there is much more to the...
Cave Camper
We are a new entrant in this market. Our first Cave truck camper model weighs ~750 lbs. and is built with composite panels. It's incredibly durable, easy to clean, and lightweight enough to be suitable for a 1/2 ton truck.
Thank you for feedback and thank you Roger M an UHAULER for the responses as well. You two echo'd some of our vision with Cave. I think it's fine to want all those amenities, but that's not the market we're looking to serve. There are plenty of folks doing that today. We're very comfortable...
Thank you for your continued interest. Looks like we missed your Spring window but we may be able to accommodate your needs this year. I'll PM you but feel free to reach out to me directly if you'd like to discuss on the phone.
You can find photos of the camper shipped to the Netherlands on our website: https://www.cavecampers.com/cave-pickup-truck-camper-gallery/ . The only difference is that the camper we shipped didn't have a table or queen bed. Also, the storage was a little smaller upfront.
Here is a photo of...
We certainly have heard lots of requests to build custom campers. As best as we can tell, a custom, made to to order camper business doesn't seem like a viable path. The price we would have to charge isn't compelling; everyone wants something custom until they see the price tag. :)
We do...
Sorry about that ... we discovered a little late that our email server is down. The business is moving forward, we just shipped a unit to the Netherlands in fact. :)
Windows ...
We're actually making some window decisions. I'd be interested in getting feedback on these two options or any others that you think are better choices.
Cave questions
The bench seats extend so that they make for wider beds when sleeping two singles. I'm 6' 3" and am incredibly comfortable sleeping in the camper. Then of course the table drops down and you re-arrange cushions to make for a queen sized bed.
New pics of the new model coming...
Love the feedback folks.
I haven't personally used a pop-up truck camper. It sounds like for this crew the main benefit of that is clearance. Fuel economy and weight being secondary benefits?
What do you think about my general concerns of the pop-up concept:
1. Moving parts break
2. Fabric...
Thanks for the feedback Roger M. Yeah, I don't think the Tuffport is that comparable but I need to do more to make that abundantly clear.
We can't wait for feedback so here we are with a limited marketing launch on Expedition Portal to hear what you think. I also am anxious for the new...
Oh, I should also mention that these pictures you see here are of our first prototype. After a summer of driving around and gathering feedback we've made some adjustments to the production version which will start shipping in December.
Key Changes in production model:
1. We drop the over cab...
Great feedback billy610! Thank you. That's just the sort of thing I'm looking for in these forums.
I like to think of the Cave camper you see now as a blank slate. It wouldn't be too hard to add a stove and refrigerator (or electric cooler) as mounted options. We're working on some of...
ClimateRight makes that heat pump and sells it for $400. They are marketing it as a solution for heating and cooling dog houses. :)

We've created a new truck camper and we'd love to get your feedback on it. Our vision was to design a truck camper for the outdoor enthusiast who wants to maximize their time outdoors while minimizing hassle and expense. Key design principles included: lightweight (750 lbs.), durability, and...
Thanks again for the feedback. So the Cave camper is made of composite panels: fiberglass, 1.5" of styrofoam, and another layer of fiberglass. Seams are avoided on edges when possible by a process where the panels are actually bent. That means less chance for leaking water or air. The door...
Thanks for the feedback JakeH. What sort of activities do you do that draws you to the Cave camper "maybe one day". What do you use now that it would replace or supplement?
