I just bought this week, and it's going to Box Manufaktur next week for a box and subframe. It will be a while to finish project.
Be very careful buying one. Many are complete rust buckets that have been painted over a couple times by now. I drove and looked a some that didn't appear safe...
I think these show all specs and parts. Which doesn't tell me what axle ratios that a certain truck was built with. This site shows an automatic for a truck that is a manual.
The experts are able to get this data somehow. I think they have EPC access.
VIN code : WDB9520731K329382
AL3...
Does anyone know how to get access to accurate build details and parts from a VIN. I think there was an EPC page, but i'm not sure it's it's open still. I've been looking at truck and it's really hard to figure out the gears and specs from listings.
Thanks
Hi.. Any updates on this?
I just started looking at LX570s and they just don't have enough headroom at all. How does something so big end up so small inside?
Did you gain a lot of headroom by doing the planted/scheel-mann swap? I've got a set of Vario XL Seats sitting in my garage.
Thanks for all the help so far. I'm leaning toward the SK or Actros with the "small engine" which happens to be an 11 liter V6. From what I'm seeing these in lightly loaded trucks are getting around 10mpg with the manual. I hope that isn't downhill with a tailwind type of figure. I really...
What is the general opinion on 1990s Mercedes truck automatics vs manuals?
I rode in an Actros manual with split shifting and it looked like the driver would be pretty busy. Are the automatics just slush boxes that eat up a lot of efficiency like old car transmissions?
Thanks for all the...
thanks
Do you think the Actros (98-2000 range) with manual transmission can be DIY maintained out of Europe? I read they had a troublesome automatic, but i can't tell what the manual is like for reliability. What's your fuel consumption like as an RV now?
I found a US company that will make the panels to spec, but wanted a LARGE order. If there's enough interest i can place a bulk order for panels. It would take about 6 16' habitats to get an order going with them. How much interest is there for quality foam core panels?
Appreciate the concern, but this issue is valid in so many areas. What about the 200hp sport bike that the kid can buy with his Burger King income? All the motorhomes out there that are over 10,000kg. It goes on and on like this.
I towed a few things with my old 80 series that was really built out. One of the worst tow rigs you could own in my opinion. The big Truck seem way easier to manage than a 30' trailer and truck combo. They turn really tight.
I've been on a number of test drives. I've driven large commercial trucks in High School and College jobs without issues. I get that it's on a huge scale and more to deal with than a 4x4 Sprinter. I honestly think it's worse to tow a 12,000 pound RV with an F250, than to drive a big expedition...
That's good. What sized tires are you running?
I'd love to hear details on engine/trans and MPG you're getting. I've heard 6-12mpg from different sources.
One of the sellers I talked to said his had "high speed gears". Which makes me think they have different gear sets.
Reminds me of the Lotus Elise chassis adhesives. The entire frame was glued together with a special adhesive. Ended up being amazingly strong and accident resistant.
