If you get a Ram get a 3500. The leaf rear end does not have the sway issues that 2500s do and can ride very well if setup correctly. I've had both, and the Ram coil rear end sucks with a load. All of my Rams, PW and 3500, have had Thuren front coils. Running those coils in the front and...
It's not really fair since they are setup totally differently. The PW on 37" ATs with a Smart Cap was maybe 400 on the highway with no wind but that dropped quickly with any wind or any speed over 75-80. (Interstate speed limits here are 80 and ******** is FAR in Montana.) It was 300-325...
Lift and tires done. Bayoukid learned a ton of stuff. Screwing with the front KDSS re-hookup is dumb. Rear is easy. Toyota could have made rear shock tower access 100% easier with an additional half inch trim on the body seam. Overall not a terrible install though. We used the method of...
Yeah. It does "seem" odd but half of it exists already. I take it you don't have a bed outlet? I thought most of these new trucks had the 2000w setup with the in-bed outlet.
Your truck has a ground terminal on the driver side above the spare tire. Don't run your ground all the way to the...
I just got out of a PW after owning it for 2.5 years and back into a 1 ton diesel. I really wanted to PW to work for us but it just didn't. And really only for two reasons.
1.The PW range is trash. Absolute trash. Especially on 37s. Having to screw with fuel every single day on an antelope hunt...
Quick trip to Moab for the kid's spring break cut short by me coming down with something. Needless to say, BayouKid wants to come back next year with the GX and we will be happy to let him follow the Tremor around.
In GX news, it's time for wheels, tires and suspension. Found these lightly...
I went all out on one of the lights with the 3m kit last weekend. Results were meh. There is some crazing and cracking internally so I'm just going to replace them with new and find a good set of LED bulbs that I can verify have decent cutoffs. It's dark a lot of the year here in Montana so...
The Eibach Stage 2 kit is on the way.
As for the transmission,it was a little behind schedule when we decided on this move last summer. The I had my mom do a drain and fill and the plan is to repeat that every 5k for a few rounds to get us back in a good place. The car has 120k on it so it...
With my oldest getting his license this coming summer and my mom buying a new Grand Highlander I took the opportunity to add her old 2012 GX460 to the fleet for the kid. The general plan is to turn it from a granny mobile into a super cool car for him to drive that is capable of doing the mild...
Thanks. We are going Eibach Stage 2 with 255/80r17s on TRD Pro wheels. I found the tires used almost new locally so if they end up being too big, I can just flip them and go to 255/75s. Going to be cool having him follow me in the Tremor around next fall. Pumped to do this build with him.
Hey @Tex68w how was the wind and mileage hit with the Rhinorack setup? I'm building out a 2012 GX for my son's first car and since they are blowing these out right now, the Backbone/Pioneer combo has peaked my interest as a place for him to stash extra fuel and traction boards for hunting trips.
Honestly, it's kind of amazing that manufacturers are able to build trucks with payloads this high despite having to include more and more mandated safety equipment year after year that adds base weight.
If they were able to build trucks without .gov restrictions we would probably be seeing...
Back in the early 20teens and aughts a LOT of people buying loaded up 3/4 tons were shocked when they realized what their payloads actually ended up being. This was before they bumped the GVWs on those trucks a bit. It was very common to see a diesel F250 4wd KR with under 2000# payload back...
Pano roof, big inverter with the big 48v battery, power running boards, etc. All that nice stuff adds up 100 or 200 pounds at a time. My King Ranch F350 6.7 is just under 3800#. If it were a basic XLT with the same engine it would be well over 4000#. That nicer interior with much nicer seats...
That Ford fits 37s from the factory.
If I didn't have a couple of kids I would probably have looked for a Supercab instead of the Crew I have. Love that setup for 2 people.
Totally agree with this. A lot of us end up just building what we own and that's ok. But if buying a truck specifically...
Have you ever owned a late model HD truck? Taken a ride in one with a mild Thuren or Carli system?
I spent a ton of money on suspension trying to make both the half ton and PW work for my family of 4 and simply realized neither worked as well anywhere, even the highway as a real HD platform. I...
F150s with that much weight capacity are stripped regular cabs I’m pretty sure. That’s not really applicable to this discussion. Most crew cab 4wds are in the 1200-1700# range.
That gets eaten up very quickly from my experience, especially once people put LT tires, toppers, etc on the truck...
Having owned myriad trucks from half ton all the way up to 1 ton, all SRW, I personally think unless your very specific circumstances warrant a super narrow truck or super tight turning radius most people traveling on normal BLM and FS roads with camping gear and a family should be in 3/4 ton...
I missed the dual Orion part. Although having owned a myriad of campers from the current Atlas and an ATC popup to a Lance Truck Camper all the way through a 40ft 5th wheel with 1000 watts on the roof and a 45ft full electric diesel pusher with a 12kw generator I really can't imagine a scenario...
I have a 2023 Tremor F350 that I am currently building out the electrical system of an ATO Atlas I recently bought. Originally I was going to go the route you want to with an Orion. I have solar on the top of the Atlas that should do most of the work of house battery charging. I decided that...
