Driving Tip -
Got to drive a deuce named "WAR PIG" over Kenosha Pass, Guanella Pass, and over Oh My God Road into Gilpin County in CO.
The truck is big but drives well. The best trick I found was to start the truck in Low Range 3rd gear, shift to high range 3rd gear and finish out the rest of...
Agreed - That's what concerns me a bit about the course - WMI and SOLO were the organizations that started the whole Wilderness Medicine using instructors who actually spent time in the field. Some of the newer orgranizations seem to be organizations trying to expand their product line.
But the...
I am wanting to renew my "Wilderness" rating for my EMT-B cert. A local community college is going to offer the course with certifications through American Safety & Health Institute.
Does anyone have experience with ASHI?
My origional cert was through SOLO in NH, and I know and WMI.
OK - So I was having my windshield replaced and the company had a interesting method of generating A/C power on the service truck. Instead of using a inverter, they had a DC motor turning an A/C generator. I have also seen this set up on a locksmith truck? Is this just old school method of...
Sounds very familiar!
This sounds very familiar to the problem I was experiencing and started this thread: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43467
I have not experienced it for a long time. I recently had the truck serviced and the front brakes were replaced, along with...
Driving Slow
OK my .02 on driving slow:
- Lane manners - Keep the vehicle in the right lane as much as possible. When you need to pass do it quick and get back to the right.
- Know what the minimum speed limit is for the road and try to maintain it.
- Make your vehicle conspicious - Drive with...
I have a small pop-up trailer that is used as a base camp. In an effort to improve its efficiency, I recently purchased one of these lights for $15.00.

I purchased them from http://www.bestrvstuff.com/
Review - I just purchased one to...
Again, it was only a theory -- The Coopers with a different tread compound, and tread design might not be the fatal combination for your Jeep.
I have heard of certian tire combinatioins playing hell with the ABS system on certian GM vehicles. In dry conditions, the tires loose a little...
Far out thought
I wonder if GA is subject to "Black Ice" like FL is? I am refering to the layer of oil that the sun and heat cooks out of the asphalt during the hot days of summer. The oils combine with the water during and create very slick conditions. Once it rains for a while, the oils will...
1) Pack drinking water in Nalgene type bottls. Wide mouth are better in the winter, and store upside down. Water freezes from the top down.
2) Pack a small stove - If freezing temps you can melt ice/snow to make water.
Just got it professionally polished, and boy is it smooth, they even removed the tire tracks on it. It should really work well in desert and the arctic. I bet you are all envious of me now. I might need a second one soon.

OK found these links:
Affinity Medical Center

I will ask on the NREMT LinkedIn Group and see what turns up.
Their seems to be a lot of urban legends regarding the stuff, that's why I would like to see some official protocals that has the indications and contra-indications for use.
The video was pretty darn impressive.
At this point, I would stock the items in my bag and use it in "wilderness...
Can someone please point me in the direction of official protocols for using Quick Clot or Combat Gauze! I would also like to hear about personal experiences with these products.
What are the official indications to use it (beyond bleeding a lot)?
What are the contra-indications for the...
I like it, but why mount the cooling fan on the outside? I think it would look much cleaner on the inside. Way cool set up!
I have an a VHF/UHF that was given to me, and a spare pelican I could use on the project.
Interesting....
The single largest consumer on my trailer is the propane detector. It will kill the battery pretty fast. The other problem is that the detector is always hot, and cannot be turned off, unless I disconnect the battery.
You will have to figure out how to identify and turn off the parasitic...
