1976 Land Rover Series III 109 build "Montoya"

Thanks, wiring is kinda my thing. While there is no real chassis rust (light surface rust on knicks, scrapes and a couple of crossmember dents), I do worry about its new environment. I slipped my borescope into a couple chassis openings and was surprised to find little rust. She lived the good...

    Defender 90 Build Thread

That is very cool! I wondered how long your rear door hinges would last with that big spare attached. A perfect solution.

1976 Land Rover Series III 109 build "Montoya"

Unfortunately, the stock 2.25 diesel smokes and has limited power. I got a hold of a rebuilt 300tdi, so I'll be installing it soon. To prepare, I have to move the battery under the seat (the stock battery tray has to come out for the 300tdi to fit. While I'm in there, I'm adding fuses and relays...

BFG KO2 pressure for snow and ice

Unlike mud, skinny is better in snow. Don't air down for snow. You want to bite in and cut through for traction. Your tire choice isn't ideal, do what everyone else said and slow down. In mud, you want velocity to maintain speed and forward motion. In snow, you want control and just enough...

1988 RRC 4.6L Conversion - Need some assistance

It is either power to the injectors or the switched ground that cycles the injectors. That is assuming that by"dry injectors" you mean the fuel rail is pressurized and full of fuel, but the injector is dry on the intake side. I'm betting the ground is not connected properly.

1976 Land Rover Series III 109 build "Montoya"

TeriAnn, thank you so much for the detailed insight and recommendations. It really means a lot to me. I've poured over your site and gained a significant amount of knowledge. While I had a Series Land Rover a long time ago, I didn't have the resources to do it right. That said, it was...

1976 Land Rover Series III 109 build "Montoya"

Montoya got some new shoes today. I like this look much better and it will go with the other exterior mods I have planned. I've got all the suspension and disk brake parts, so they will be going on over the Christmas break. The beauty of Texas weather (other than the recent rain) is great car...

1976 Land Rover Series III 109 build "Montoya"

Thank you!!! Hadn't gotten that far into thinking about using it for its intended purpose, but that makes perfect sense. Now, I have to find a decent steering wheel...

1976 Land Rover Series III 109 build "Montoya"

Figured I'd start a thread to get this thing moving. I have all the parts to sort out the suspension and drivetrain. Just need the time. What's cool is finally getting another series and discovering that the demented world of Porsche part prices had warped my reality on the cost of parts. I sold...

    Sweet Jeep!

I actually bid on only because I couldn't help myself! My wife is still recovering from the Land Rover that showed up "unexpectedly" in our driveway.

Montoya my 1976 Series III 109

Christmas came early! I certainly didn't expect a delivery on Saturday. I got to get the damn garage cleaned up in order to get to work. Speaking of work, it's getting in my way of building and driving. A necessary evil!

Montoya my 1976 Series III 109

So, she's a Spaniard. Montoya seemed appropriate. Upgrades are coming. You Landry owners don't know "underpowered" until you drive a 109 with the stock diesel 2.25. I have procured a 300 TDI (love diesels) and it will go in over Christmas. I bought her as she is completely rust free (the south...

Say hello to the White Camel - Defender 90

Excellent upgrades and well executed. I have the same tires and size going on a black wolf rim for my 1976 Series III 109. I debated white letters out or in for about a nanosecond and seeing yours mounted really help seal my decision - no white letters. Keep up the great work and posting pictures!

Lucky 8 Off-Road's Black Friday Weekend 2016 Sale

Ah, CFO negotiations, I know it well. My approach is to scrounge up some leftover car parts in the garage, sell them on eBay and then claim the value as an investment. This has served me well ever since she claimed she saved $200 when she bought a $500 pair of shoes for $300 (female logic)...

Wow, glad to see that Ralph is still humming. Great upgrades! My 1976 Series III has the diesel 2.25, so consider yourself lucky in the power department! Soon, it will have a 300 tdi and many other upgrades to keep it living a long life. Here's a pic:
