As you stated, you want to retain factory GPS. Your only option is to repair, or replace factory head unit. I would suggest Craigslist, or a local pick & pull junkyard, for options to replace.
Be aware that the "firehose" material, is not that of what a firehose is made of. It is very similar to Carhartt's canvas duck cloth.
I talked to a lot of people that thought they were getting some form of hose material.
It's just a trademark name. High quality, but mostly made in China.
Seems to me, that the new GMRS radio's, would make CB's go the way of the DoDo birds. Longer range, simpler antenna, etc.
I had a CB, but I had to re-tune the antenna every time I switched between hard and soft tops. Unit quit working. So now I'm on the fence on what to replace with?

I remember wheeling in my buddies '65 power wagon. We went straight up a short hill, then over and down the far side. Three of us in the cab, all had knots on our heads from banging the steel cab, and everything under the seat, was now on top of the dashboard!
