    275/65r-18 BFG KO2 on LR3?

You a Land Rover engineer? I understand some mods have downsides but you almost seem offended by it. One benefit of the EAS control of the GAP tool is resetting the standard ride height to allow more up travel/clearance, for running dirt roads with ruts, potholes, etc at moderate speeds but...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

If the Defender manages to reach even a fraction of Jeep popularity, there will aftermarket kits available for almost everything, suspension included. The ideal for guys who are worried about airbag failures but want to keep the ride and adjustments would be rebuilding the factory airbag struts...

Motorcycle on back of Expedition truck

I’m a little confused as to all of the complexity. You should be able to build a platform sturdy enough to hold the weight of the KTM, mountain bikes, and spare tire that weighs under 100 lbs. How high would the bottom of the platform be off the ground? If it’s 3-4’ it’s easy enough to just...

    275/65r-18 BFG KO2 on LR3?

Thanks, leaning that direction at the moment. I was asking as I don’t mind cutting stuff that others may want to avoid. Not going the rod or spacer route, I ordered the GAP IID tool to control the suspension height. If some 3/8” steel plate spacers would allow to 275’s to drive on the bumpstops...

Back in a Rover again, mild LR3 build

Any thoughts on if a dual battery setup is worth it if a guy isn’t going to run a fridge? The plan for electrical mods is a multi-mount winch that will likely not see very much use, some driving lights wired through the Land Rover auxiliary switch, a trailer brake controller, CB radio, and ARB...

    Land Rover vs Mercedes

Most of the time you can take 80% of the payout and keep the car, with a clean title. Otherwise see if you can buy it back from the insurance co. Even if the rear control arm mounting points are damaged, a good body shop with a frame machine can make it drive right.

Life With A Supercharged RRS For an Overland Rig

Interested to see how this turns out. Check out the GAP IID tool, it’s really impressive. You can use it to add a slight lift for everyday use if you want, then a taller height for off-road use, which will overcome the 30 mph speed limit in factory off-road mode. Plus is does full factory...

Back in a Rover again, mild LR3 build

I will post some pics when I get to the CB install, I’m still doing research at this point. I agree that the GMRS is a better product, but unfortunately with radios, you need someone to talk TO, and I’m fairly certain that CB is still king around here. This is the unit I’m looking at, there is a...

Back in a Rover again, mild LR3 build

Yes, I don’t intend to use my receiver hitch for recovery, I was talking about on another vehicle. I’m aware of the factory LR3 recovery points. I tend to think the rating on the ARB strap is probably quite conservative, based on my experiences from high school. Stuff like an F-250 diesel on...

Back in a Rover again, mild LR3 build

I was under the impression that a snatch strap like the ARB (stretches and is desinged to use momentum) functioned the same as a kinetic rope, in comparison to static straps like tree savers, winch extenders, crane slings, etc. What’s the difference? For anyone interested, the ARB soft shackle...

Back in a Rover again, mild LR3 build

I went ahead and ordered some recovery gear after realizing my snatch straps were 15 years old. ARB stuff is a little more expensive but it seems worth it when you consider possible failures. The 3/4” shackles fit great in the front recovery point with the access hole I cut, and work well in the...

Thanks, couldn’t be farther though, in in N FL.

2001 D2 SD for first vehicle

As much as I’m not a Jeep guy and XJ’s bore me to death, they are hard to not consider on a limited budget for a younger driver. They may still need some wrenching but parts are available and cheap, and I don’t know of a lot of major/complicated issues with them.

    275/65r-18 BFG KO2 on LR3?

Thanks for the replies, I really wish it were possible to try both sizes back to back. Obviously the 275’s will take more hp to turn, reduce braking, wander more on the road, etc, but I’m wondering if it’s actually noticeable from behind the wheel or not. At this point, I’m leaning towards the...

2001 D2 SD for first vehicle

Personally, I would steer clear of a D2/P38 for anyone, particularly a younger person with limited mechanical experience. I’ve owned and worked on quite a few Rovers for customers, and the D2’s are by far the worst in terms of the number and severity of the problems. Head gasket issues are just...

Back in a Rover again, mild LR3 build

Besides those issues which should have been fixed from the factory, the car is brilliant, I absolutely love it. The 4 hr maiden voyage home was uneventful, as was the first out of town trip, so I’m building a lot of faith in it quickly compared to my previous Land Rovers, albeit lacking a bit of...

Back in a Rover again, mild LR3 build

First steps were rather boring, I replaced a worn armrest with one from eBay, picked up a factory rear cargo mat, and needed to sort out a hitch. It’s really aggravating that these things don’t come with one standard, given that they are $50k plus and rated to tow almost 8,000 lbs. Most people...

Back in a Rover again, mild LR3 build

I have a reasonably long history with Land Rovers, starting with a 97 D1 I bought back in college around 10 years ago. With a mild lift and KM2’s I ran around the national forest, and put I lot of miles on it as a DD. I moved out to Austin TX for a few years, and the it ended up wrong side up on...

GAP Diagnostic Tools: Questions and Dream Requests!

Would it be possible to reduce the high speed lowering (factory 100 mph) down to 70? Being that a lot of guys use the IID for a mild 1-2” full time lift and most don’t exceed 100 mph, it would be nice to automatically drop it down a bit when on the highway. I know that different lift profiles...

    275/65r-18 BFG KO2 on LR3?

Thanks for the replies, going to do a bit more research before I order tires. I’m not really interested in the Proud Rhino kit due to the drawbacks, it seems great for guys interested in running 33” tires and larger. This is my 6th Rover, but first without a solid axle. Kind of frustrating...
