Did a compression check and leakdown test chasing my worsening idle miss. Both showed the engine to be in decent shape if not great. And didn't explain the miss. the search continues...
Triangulation on the rivets would definitely be a plus, but my main concern was how easily that cam lock retainer strap would pop open under duress. I have a similar one on my boat and I know it's not the most solid thing. You're right, the projectile path is pretty limited...I'm just paranoid...
That looks nice, but honestly, it would worry me in the event of a major front end collision. Do you think it's secure enough to keep from becoming a deadly projectile if the unthinkable happens? I haven't added one to my GC yet, partially because I worry about that scenario and all the...
It all depends on your goals. For me, a heavy rider who's not focused on speed, reliability is first, cost is second, weight is third. When you're talking long distance camping bikes, they're all going to be heavy (compared to my carbon road bike anyway) because you have a bunch of crap...
Replaced all 4 front control arms. Pressing/cutting/hammering the bushings out on the axle was a bear with the wide pan of the V8 in the way. But the 21 year old Jeep drives like a brand new car! Well, a brand new solid axle truck anyway. Taking it to the shop for an alignment and some help...
I love my 920. It's not great at really technical trail work (drop bars, bar end shifters, rigid, long wheel base) and it's not ideal for rifing road centuries (too inefficient) but it's awesome for anything in between. IT fits perfectly between my carbon road bike and my 5" dual suspension...
Looks good. I'm not a big fan but several of the guys I ride with swear by them. I'm running drop bars (Salsa Cowbells) on a rigid trek 920 right now. Not a fan of drops on a suspension bike though.
My Rig:
Well, no RTT, but I did just order a mountain bike fork adapter from you. Hoping the dual tube design will work for both my through axle bikes instead of buying 2 different adapters.
Great platform? ehh...maybe. It's been soundly abused and I'm chasing a LOT of repairs to bring it up to my (high) reliability standards. But if I can get it running right it does fit well with my purposes. Here's a LINK to a sort-of build thread on another forum.
Well, since someone else reanimated this zombie, I'll chip in with a question.
I've got a Klymit Static V I use bikepacking and it's great - but as a broad-shouldered side-sleeper, I'm miserable because I can't find a good, thick pillow solution that stows small and light. Any suggestions?
I like flats when I'm easy cruising or commuting but clipless is the only way to go (IMHO) for longer or more technical trips. Mainly because the gain in efficiency and control. The downside is having to wear clipless shoes, but once you find a pair that's comfortable it's not that big a deal...
I just read through this build for the first time. very educational. I picked up a white '97 Limited ZJ a few months back and have been trying to get all the neglect worked out. Your build is way more than I'm planning, but there were some good tips and tricks I picked up. I particularly enjoyed...
Spent a few hours exploring Oaky Woods WMA near my house yesterday. Lots of rain made for muddy roads. You can tell I was overlanding because there's a shovel on the roof.
Well done! Your attention to making everything fit cleanly and correctly is admirable. I like the idea of having both the ability to go almost anywhere, the comfort to do it for long miles, and the low-key look not to attract too much unwanted attention doing it. I'm trying to do the same thing...
I just discovered you guys on IG and have finished watching season 3 on YT. The cinematography and production is really top notch. I'm a fan of travel and food shows like Bourdain's stuff and the newer show by Phil Rosenthal, and I would say your video and image work is very nearly on par with...
Haven't used the track, but I'll add another testimony for RAM stuff in general. I use the X-Grip phone mounts - a screw mount in my boat and a suction mount in my Jeep - and they are rock solid.
Set out to replace the radiator and add some recovery points. Found out the water pump was leaking. Removed half the front of the 318 to get the waterpump and thermostat off. New one should be going on tonight.
Beefed up the aftermarket radiator support/ recovery points to handle 3/4 shackles...
