A Question for all You ExPo Vehicle Fabricators???

Have any of you built/ fab'd a component (bumpers, swing out racks, bike/ moto carriers, etc.) out of Corten steel? I've built several "home compound" structures on my property (like entry's/ gates) with it over the last 10 years... And I am starting to think why not fab the next "stuff" for...

    Elevator bed DIY leveling

Hey Man! Glad to see you working on your rig! You know me well enough by now that you won't be surprised when I suggest... DUMB IT DOWN! In Casa I used to pack those "lego like" leveling pads, then bailed on them because I park the truck with a left front tire high bias. Most of the time it is...

    Inflatable boats

For several years we made our annual trip down into Baja with a 12' Aquapro (from NZ) aluminum hulled RIB and a Yamaha 25 hp 4-stroke. It was definitely fun when we were staying somewhere for a week or 2, and even more fun when we had friends come hang with us at one of our many "secret spots"...

Truck "Home Systems" Recharging from a PTO?

Thank you all for responding! Hegear, you have the concept, however I am talking about a more compact, efficient system, "state of the art" ( I always balk when i am told that). I've spent most of my professional life designing, developing, & prototyping MUCH more complicated systems, but now...

Truck "Home Systems" Recharging from a PTO?

I tried to do a search on this first but only came up with "goose eggs". I been planning on getting a propane backup generator for my home in Alta California, then got to thinking that I could just get a propane generator for Casa ( she has a rack for 2x 44 lb. tanks), then "plug" the house...

    Earthroamer sell off?

In the beginning days of the "Overlanding Epoch" I also had aspirations of starting to build "expedition campers" for sale. I had/ have the fully outfitted shop (overhead rail system & NC milling/ turning/ plasma) with 5 acres of secured yard) and back then with some VERY talented employees...

Total composites style box on a 144 sprinter cutaway?

Don't get me wrong Total Composites puts out a TOP NOTCH product... But why not find a used U-Haul box to mount to your Sprinter cutaway. That way you can cut/ hack/ manipulate it to your hearts desire for a fraction of the price. Now granted, if you don't have the work space, tools, or skills...

Paint and body work Unimog camper

The south side of Ensenada is a quite large industrial complex that caters to the marine and transport trades. I'm sorry I can't suggest anybody specifically. But, I can say that that is where I'll be going to repaint my rig (if i don't do it myself). The good thing is that it is 1+ hours drive...

I'm not talking "Kommando Spezialkräfte", but pretty darn close, how would you build your next RIG?

Nothing Charlie! I just have been a little "out of the loop" regarding what people are using or thinking of using for hardware these days. It has become pretty obvious to me now that there are very few "old gearheads" tinkering with 4x4 condominiums anymore ( I use that term because I spent...

I'm not talking "Kommando Spezialkräfte", but pretty darn close, how would you build your next RIG?

I know Charlie, kind of ridicules huh! But, I'd like to think us "Mericans" make up for our short comings with creativity, because we can't just go buy the good "crack" off the shelf! I miss the old days when there were "hand fulls" of folks here in NA that were designing and building their own...

I'm not talking "Kommando Spezialkräfte", but pretty darn close, how would you build your next RIG?

Thanks Mog! Honestly i was thinking that there were others like you and Charley out there that would want to engage with others about how to build the top shelf "4x4 Condominium"! Sadly, I guess "that ship has sailed"!

I'm not talking "Kommando Spezialkräfte", but pretty darn close, how would you build your next RIG?

I am inclined to stick with Cummins. Maybe a "C" motor (8.2L), but honestly the 5.9 12 valve that I put in Casa has plenty of power ( with a "slightly" built pump) and I am getting 15~18 MPG. I was thinking of using a Porsche 928 because I like the "flip-up" headlights and by swapping the...

    Eco Hubs

I also think I should share a word of warning with you... If a LMTV with your hub/ gearing adapters is traveling faster (or not) than the tires are rated for and has a "catastrophic" crash, expect the lawyers to be knocking on your door! In my 40+ years of manufacturing ( I own a 5 axis NC shop)...

    Eco Hubs

I do actually have experience driving LMTV off road in deep sand and know for a fact that even with the tires fully aired down they are not geared low enough for soft sand. You are obviously mechanically talented with a machine shop (or have a relationship with one that is willing to make...

    Oshkosh P-19 Crash Truck

Here are some old (20+ years ago) pictures of a converted airfield fire/ rescue Oshkosh. The fricken thing had an elevator to get in to the cabin!

    Eco Hubs

:ROFLMAO: That is just what a S&S LMTV needs! Given that their transfer case doesn't have a low range and the CTIS systems usually are flawed. I can see one getting stuck on a sandy beach and their rig becoming... a permanent BEACH FRONT COTTAGE! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: That is unless your...

    New project ! 2006 GMC 5500 4x4 Top Kick

Please pardon me because of my incredulous nature! But in this day and age, image/ 3d modelling can be bought for "chump change"!!! If these folks are the "real deal" ... Then they should show off their REAL DRIVE-ABLE HARDWARE!!! Otherwise, they are just POSERS like all the kooks for the last...
