    better fabric-design for flippac????

Right. That's exactly what I envision. In fact, the Sportsmobile tent has shock cord encircling it to draw it in for easy closure... The problem is that it creates a seam (where the skirt is sewn to the tent) where water can come in. So, that has to be taped/sealed. bb

    Rack on a Flippac?

If you arent using a rack on the FP lid, most of the weight, I think, would be carried by the edges. I have not done it, but I think you'd be OK. I have thought about mounting Thule feet to the edge of the lid. That could bear considerable weight as the gutters could be screwed into the lid's...

FlipPac Lid Repair 101 (or how to get in over your head in three easy steps...)

Cliff: No, we are not planning to replace the steel framework in the lid. We did think to sleeve it and bolt to the sleeve. But we are planning a fix that both takes care of the need for rigidity and fixes the separation of the fiberglass lid in one repair. I'll get some more pictures and post...

FlipPac Lid Repair 101 (or how to get in over your head in three easy steps...)

Greetings guys: As some of you know, I bought a used FP a few years back and have been a happy camper. When I needed a rain fly, I ask my friend Karl to help make one. Well, not only did I get a nice new fly, many of you did, too. Thanks, Karl (of SLO Sail and Canvas). Last fall, I decided...

    better fabric-design for flippac????

I spoke to Karl today. Two thoughts came from the conversation: first, we are going to be playing with the tent we have (currently off the FP) and see about how to go about making repairs and mods. Second, there is a guy who can make custom tents; cost likely to be well north of $2,000. To...

    better fabric-design for flippac????

The tent design frostymug describes is beyond the capabilities of SLO Sails, I think. There is a custom tent builder I know of who may be able to help. But I think this will be an expensive proposition. For my purposes, I very much doubt I'd consider replacing the tent. I would consider...

    better fabric-design for flippac????

Good stuff. Too heavy for the tent. We considered it for the fly and it's too heavy for that. Have not heard from Karl yet. He is probably wondering what I've gotten him into. Also, I got a PM about what I've learned about the construction of the FP we are working on. I have been taking pix...

    better fabric-design for flippac????

Interestingly, we have a FlipPac complete apart for repairs to the lid and the tent is sitting in on the loft floor at SLO Sail and Canvas. This might be a good time to consider making some mods. The primary problem is the fabric itself. Minimally, it would need to be treated with Nikwax, have...

    New to me Flip Pac

Welcome to the cadre of FP owners here. You are certainly in the right place. Thats a great set-up that I am sure you'll enjoy. I like the idea of mounting using the stake pockets. I think you could design something custom that would bolt the FP into the pockets using some form of cam bolt or...

    CL Find: FP in Boise

For some reason, the F/S domestic truck FlipPacs don't sell very quickly, probably b/c a full-size truck does not make a great off-road expedition vehicle. So, you may be able to snag that one for less. Try finding one that fits a Taco, however, and you had better act fast and be prepared to...

Group Flip Pac Camper Rain Fly Buy

I had not thought of the fact tat you bought it from AT rather than SLO Sail. That does make a difference. Did you discuss with Martyn? Anyway, sorry to send you on a wild goose chase, Doc. But I do understand why they would not include them now if bought new from AT. You should be able to buy...

I mentioned in post 90 that if you bought an early fly, you could probably call SLO Sails to discuss webbing. bb

Group Flip Pac Camper Rain Fly Buy

SLO Sail uses a polyester fabric with PVC coating. I think nylon is available, but harder to work with and more expensive to begin with, IIRC. One goal of the original hand-raisers was to keep costs down. But poly may be the preferred fabric in the first pace. bb

Group Flip Pac Camper Rain Fly Buy

Hi Guys: I don't think of it as lame. We learn as we go along. One such takeaway is the webbing. SLO Sail now supplies three sections of 1" webbing with the fly. I have not spoken to them about it, but my guess is they would be happy to talk to their early fly customers about the webbing...

Group Flip Pac Camper Rain Fly Buy

Greetings all, Been a while since I checked in. Spent a few rainy, windy nights in the FP last weekend. As you can see, I have a different truck. But I wanted you all to see what I did to use the ladder buckles. First, I have a 6' piece if 1" webbing to secure the fly under the lid (when the...

    WTB flip-pac=Tundra

This chart may be helpful to you if you find used FP. I bought one at I thought would fit my T100. It didn't...so I bought a different truck. There are two different size FP's for short-bed pick-ups. As you can see, the Tundra (and T100) is a few inches shorter than a domestic short-bed, which...
