Any longtime riders quit for good?

Some interesting stories here, so I’ll tell mine. I started riding on the street, legally, in 1974. For most of the next 12-13 years motorcycling was my life; a little club racing, MSF instructor, quit my job to ride to Alaska, etc. I had 4 or 5 bikes when I got married 15 years later, but...

Tacoma is a dog, should I think twice before adding FWC?

My first pickup was an ‘81 Datsun (yes, not yet Nissan in the US then) King Cab, 4x4. 2.2 liter, I think, 4 cylinder. It wasn't fast, but I never thought of it as underpowered. I remember following a Corvette over Sonora Pass in California and wishing he'd go faster ... though of course I...

now this interesting, Lifetime Products 55 QUART HIGH PERFORMANCE COOLER

Bulky, fairly light things like coolers, which also don’t have many parts that need manual assembly, may not be much cheaper to make in China, and ship over the ocean. Aside from everything else, there’s a 4-8 week lag time while the units are on the boat, not being sold, and potentially...

    Liquid stove storage/transport

    Good idea, thanks.

    Liquid stove storage/transport

So as I mentioned thinking about in another thread, I picked up a used Coleman 413H 2 burner white gas stove, after about 20 years of using a propane 2 burner with 1lb disposable cylinders. When I had my previous Coleman white gas stove, I don’t really remember how I stored them in the cars or...

Tacoma is a dog, should I think twice before adding FWC?

To the OP, I'm a little confused by your assessment of your truck's power (I have a similar 3rd gen with automatic). Yes, low end torque is disappointing, though I would think with an MT you could pick the gear that provides the rpm and torque you need, more predictably than the AT even in S...

Pressurizing water tank with onboard air compressor

Even filtered and oil-less, I wouldn't spray compressor output into MY drinking water, unless there was a bladder. Even home systems, as far as I know, use water pressure against the bladder, not outside air.

    Cook set or Camp Table?

After reading a few of these comments, I realized that we do have a dedicated camping cook pot set that nests, with folding handles and a few bowls, that has held up well for 20+ years, from Target of all places. But as someone said, the frying pans are too thin for even controllable heating, so...

    Cook set or Camp Table?

Well, as is often the case I'll be a contrarian. Most cooking equipment other than the stove, and perhaps dishwashing and cleanup supplies, is no different than what you'd use at home, though do I confess to having a camp-only coffee setup. Either raid your kitchen, or pick up a few things at a...

    Death Valley - President's Day Weekend - 2018

Nice pictures ... thanks for sharing. Did you guys come up 395 on Tuesday? I was heading down for a quiet post-holiday visit to DV and I think I saw a few built 4Runners heading the other way.

“One size fits all” stove/camp cooking setup?

Good ending! Too late for me now since I tossed the stove. I think subconsciously I wanted a new one.

“One size fits all” stove/camp cooking setup?

^^^ I guess the moral of the story is “don't take your Century stove to Baja”. Our hose assembly failed at the pressure relief valve, spraying propane as soon as we screwed in the canister. I disassembled it and checked for an obstruction, no luck. But the way the hose was swaged on...

“One size fits all” stove/camp cooking setup?

OK, I've read all the comments here and should probably just make my own decision, but I'll toss this out for the ExPo collective wisdom. I owned a two burner Coleman white gas stove decades ago and got tired of pumping, spilled fuel, dry leather seals etc, and switched to a very reliable...

    Show me Springbar Tent pron!

We (me and wife, no kids/dogs) had an RTT but for many reasons it just didn't match our camping style and needs too much of the time. So 2 years ago I was in SLC and checked out the Springbars with great expectations. Great design, decent quality, but just seemed too heavy and bulky for our use...

5-7 days in the back country of Death Valley....

Sounds like a great journey! I know you’re mostly asking about gear and supplies here, but DV is different than many places with regard to weather and topography and distances. Since elevations range from below sea level to over 11000 feet in the park, you have to be prepared in March, for...

Single burner propane with VERY low simmer setting?

So our propane stove regulator failed in Baja and I couldn't find a replacement part nor even a new propane stove, so I bought one of these single burner butane jobs. It worked great when out of the wind, so I bought a folding windscreen and some spare gas bottles and took it to Death Valley...

SOLD 2007 Ducati Multistrada 1100S Red Pristine, full luggage, lots of extras

Stunning bike, I always liked the 1100's ... wet clutch, right? I don't usually look at the ads here but just posted my VStrom for sale. If I sell it and my Ducati Monster, I'd be interested. This is the perfect combination of more upright all-road bike (VStrom) and air-cooled V Twin (Monster)...

Hodakaguy's Overland Tacoma Builds - On to new adventures!

Not the first time I've seen a comment about the SSO bumper “lean”. Otherwise it's very appealing. Your build on the other hand, is all good, no exceptions!

Tacoma: 2nd Gen Flippac on 3rd Gen?

What he said. The big difference fit-wise for a FlipPac would be the tailgate/liftgate interface. Some creative adaptation would make it work OK I'm sure. I had to play around with mine (T100, not 3rd gen) as it came with no rear window. I don't even know if there was a specific 3rd gen config...
