No, we didn't.
I've posted a number of articles on our Overland Tech and Travel site, here. If you search for JATAC you'll find them all.
ETA8VR, our solar power system comprises two 100-watt semi-rigid panels from Global Solar. They attach directly to the roof via an adhesive backing, thus...
I'll virtually echo Jeff's comments. The Oztent is very quick to erect in its basic configuration; however, there is much more involved with pitching it completely, and you might find a scant difference between it and your Springbar in the end. It is definitely limited in headroom versus a...
A Maxtrax recovery in sand can sometimes be accomplished in about two minutes from stuck to free. Minimum time to deploy the X-Jack is probably five times that - and you still should have something to put under the tires. That's if the device can lift the vehicle enough to overcome suspension...
And that pretty much sums up living with Blitz cans. Or the original Sceptre cans for that matter, for which you can buy very nicely made wrenches to get the top secure so that (you hope) it doesn't leak.
No on has ever needed a wrench or a hammer on a NATO can.
Not dumb questions at all.
The "Blitz" type cans your friend gave you are unfortunately well-known for leaking, both from the spout and the lid itself, even with new O-rings. The large diameter of the opening makes it difficult to put sufficient pressure on the gasket to seal it effectively...
Thanks to everyone who came for a fantastic Overland Expo. We saw pretty much nothing but smiles for three days. Graham and I finished up some post-Expo training, and Roseann and I are now in Flagstaff for a couple of days doing absolutely nothing productive.
First, as Flounder said, this approach could be seen as a reason to bulldoze new roads everywhere under the guise of "handicapped access." Find me a handicapped rights group that is lobbying for the elimination of wilderness areas. They aren't - this argument is usually brought up by perfectly...
I still own several W&G bush jackets, except I'm now afraid to wear them since they can't be replaced. Pathetic.
You can get exact copies of W&G clothing from Lost Worlds, but it will cost you.
I agree - but it can be an issue if you're careless. Thor at Viking had a guy claim failure on one of his lines. When pressed, he admitted to having lowered several friends' trucks in a row down a steep slope, using an internally braked winch. (He also then admitted that the winch's motor had...
Not sure why some winches "wouldn't get along" with synthetic line. On those with brakes inside the drum (which I think includes the EP12.5) you need to watch the temperature on the bottom wraps when reversing under load, but that's easy to manage. Otherwise its simply a matter of matching the...
I'm perfectly happy with this confirmation. Too many interior secretaries (of both parties) have been nothing but puppets of big oil and timber companies. We could use some balance.
I believe they are exactly the same except for the country of origin. I have the U.S.-made version. I haven't had the chance to compare the two directly in terms of workmanship.
Not at all! I was just pointing out that there seem to be two distinct types of cougar encounters - the very few fatal attacks tend to be swift and decisive, with no time for the victim to react; most other encounters involve a young, inexperienced lion easily scared off without the need to...
Scott, if you read the case studies, you'll find that not one of those nine people would have had a chance to use a firearm. As I mentioned, I carry a firearm when I'm hiking, but it's not for defense from cougars, because I know I won't need it. I think Vicreo started the thread because he...
