    Gas can kill.

Similar to the shiny, never-been-off-highway mall cruisers or faux monster trucks that teenagers love[ed?] so much.

    Gas can kill.

Here's how I approach spare gas on my slow speed 4WD excursions: 1. Carried on the rear in city traffic or at high speed freeway traffic is a bad idea. Once on your dirt adventure begins, where the chances of being rear-ended are nil, it doesn't matter. 2. Carried on the roof (the way I do it...

    Refigerator/freezer question(s) poll (sort of)

Engel MT 45. In '97 Toyota 4Runner, strapped down in the back, access through the open tail hatch. Works for 7-8 days for 1, 4-5 days for 2. Could be made to work for longer trips by only using it for genuinely perishable food like meat and certain vegetables. The MT-45 (which I think has a...

    Favorite Tire Repair Kit?

I bought a safety Seal kit about 15 years ago. I bring it when going to remote places but have never needed it. I've renewed the plugs once or twice in case they "go bad". Also cary 2 tall cans of fix a flat and if going really remote, 2 ways to inflate a tire, motor- and hand-powered

    Scepter water can leaking

I had a scepter 10L can that leaked. Even when carried right-side-up along rough roads, it'd leak from around the edge of the cap, and wet the car floor. Turned out the screw top was warped. I could clearly see that it was out of round once I took it all the way off and stared straight at it...

    Battery for my 2013 Jk

Some folks do a thing where they install a nice, fat group 31-sized battery and get by for a couple days with the fridge(not set to freezing), and still have enough for starting. Can a group 31 be made to fit under the hood of a JK? AGM "combo start + deep cycle" batteries are generally favored...

    Garmin Overlander

Yep, actual buttons and controls are nice..touch screens are overrated. My Montana is OK, interface-wise....I use it, and get what I need from it. Garmin ONLY mentions "maps you can download from us, including USGS Quads". I'm not familiar with the term "reverse engineered IMG compilers", but...

    Garmin Overlander

Their OS's and GUI design seem like they are from 1983---pre-Mac and Windows. From all I can find out, the Overlander cannot use maps that aren't provided by Garmin....which makes it crippled in my estimation. I still want a Garmin Montana with a 7" screen.

    Garmin Overlander tips & tricks

I want to know if it can accept non-Garmin maps, such as the CalTopo ones you can download from gpsfiledepot.com. Garmin's product promo literature did not answer my question when I looked.

    Water container recs/stowage of them...

I have 4 of the 10L and a couple of the 20L. 10Ls are way easier to load/unload, and less awkward to handle. I bring the 20L only if I'm going to use a shower.

Would this make an acceptable house battery?

Yes, its intended use is to sit in the basement of telephone switching building waiting for the weekly test and, in case of mains failure, to sit in the switching building basement and provide power to the landline system while the emergency generator comes up to speed. Being moved a lot...
