    My new-to-me 6.2L Disco

Keep in mind there is a pretty significant difference between the civilian and military versions of this motor -- 143hp/247ftlb versus 165hp/330ftlb. I'm not trying to say it's not a giant, heavy NA diesel from the early 1980s, but I think if you drove it you would grudgingly admit that it works...

    My new-to-me 6.2L Disco

R380 mated to what I assume is an LT230 with apparently a Mark's 4x4 of Australia adapter kit. I don't have my floor jack and jackstands and all that with me here, gotta wait till I get home to GA to figure out exactly what's up.

Yeah the Banks turbo is an option. Just eyeballing it looks like it shouldn't be too much of an issue fitting it. However Banks seems to get mixed reviews online. Another option is a used turbo from a 6.5L. But at this point this motor has more than enough power. I'll see how she runs in...

Does it get better than a mildly lifted white DI? I don't think so. Defenders be damned. :wings:

I wonder if I could just live without it... I can't even remember the last time I used window-washer fluid.

Not sure on the dimensions. The oil pan doesn't hang particularly low and it fits in the engine bay very well, as you can see. I have two batteries in the bay, mounted behind each headlight, which you can't see, and there is still plenty of room. It has a very well-built custom radiator (3...

    My new-to-me 6.2L Disco

Yeah, there are options out there -- the issue I can foresee is getting the intake past the coolant and washer fluid boxes. There really isn't much room or depth unless I really snake the intake. I think I'd consider taking out the washer fluid box and replacing with a much smaller reservoir...

    My new-to-me 6.2L Disco

Thought I'd share another photo of the motor. There is quite a bit of space under the hood... it's definitely not as stuffed in there as I was expecting. Any attempt at a snorkel might require some mild creativity though. Land Cruisers mount their snorkels on the passenger side, IIRC.

Sound advice, I'll look into it. Yeah, in pictures it looked a little tall -- I was thinking I'd take her down to 1.5-2" lift -- but when I saw it in person the stance was perfect and there is much less body-roll than I anticipated. I actually really love these springs -- I need to find out...

I don't believe so. It's a good question and one I considered when I first thought about purchasing the vehicle. The torque numbers for the Chevy 6.2 are pretty close to the 3.9 V8. The Chevy clocks in the neighborhood of 143hp/257ft lb at peak, while the milspec allegedly clocks in at...

    My new-to-me 6.2L Disco

Howdy folks. I picked up my new 1995 DI yesterday and thought I would share with you all my impressions. I owned a 96 SE7 back in the early 2000s and wheeled it pretty extensively through Utah, CO and AZ (I was in college at CU-Boulder). The bug never left me and I've been wanting to buy one...

    German 98 Blazer build

Funny how the grass is always greener... here in the states a lot of us pay premiums to drive the rusty Rover and old G-wagen hulks you see lying in neglected in people's driveways over there... and here you are tooling around in a dime-a-dozen Blazer that most of us wouldn't look twice at...

    1995 Land Rover 6.2 diesel w/manual trans

Yeah after further discussion with Dens it turns out it has an R380. I'm cautiously optimistic about how the R380 will handle the 6.2 over time -- a few guys in England have mated it to the ZF HP422 without any issues. They're posting 0-60 times in the low 10 second range and easy mid-20s mpg...

    1995 Land Rover 6.2 diesel w/manual trans

Hmm, interesting. I've been frequenting a few diesel forums to get up to speed and it's very popular -- however it's definitely an order-and-bolt-on kit with a lot of incredible promises (+80HP!! +125 LB-FT torque!!) and flashing GIF images and advertisements that makes me nervous. Definitely...
