Yes, to your point, I would expect no sway due to sidewall deflection at appropriate inflation levels.

    jeep m715 overland build

I’m going to say that is seriously cool, and, no matter how reliable… you have to be seriously tolerant to pull 2k miles in old iron. I’ve crossed the country several times in 30+ year old trucks and I can feel it still!

    Kenda Klever R/T

I’ve been running the 33x10.5 for years on my jeep. Not sure of exact mileage, maybe 40-ish thousand miles now. Still a huge fan. I haven’t been keeping tight track, but I’m guessing about 50% wear at this point and very little tread chunking. They balance well, are relatively quiet, and get...

    Flatbed materials (steel vs. aluminum)

This couldn’t be more true. Just guessing from what we commonly see for west coast equipment fabrication to our designs in the factory where I work, I would not be surprised if 50% of fabricators simply say no, and the next 50% are anywhere from 3-5x the cost of steel for a finished product...

Portable battery and 12v outlet question

That is a deep rabbit hole. There is a sun forum on this board for 12V power systems and associated stuff. You might spend some time reading there for a while.

Slide-outs - any reason to not use a DIY dovetail slide

Have you considered the complexity of the drain line required to put the shower and toilet into the slide out? I would personally try and design something without a moving drain line, as that sounds worse than a slide when it goes wrong. Even with a cassette toilet, I assume you will want some...

Slide-outs - any reason to not use a DIY dovetail slide

Without getting into a ton of math that would probably just end up proving my incompetence, I would say that the 1” tube seems too little to me. If I was building my own with a design similar to yours, I would be thinking something like 1x2 or better 1x3 with probably a wall of 0.083 or...

    Vagabond Outdoors camper patent

Yes, far too many out there that think they can generally patent commonplace ideas and far too many others that allow it. Then again, read the Knockoff thread and realize that everyone will just continue on as planned. There was a similar thing back when I was in heavy construction. Someone...

Slide-outs - any reason to not use a DIY dovetail slide

Yeah, I’m pretty much out of ideas. Everything I think of is either really heavy or becomes a challenge to package into a floor effectively.

Slide-outs - any reason to not use a DIY dovetail slide

Understanding that you have a concern for overall height, and having very little experience with RVs and associated slide mechanisms, I would ask: Does the floor height of the slide have to match the camper floor? If the slide is for kitchen cabinets and a dinette for instance, those could be...

Slide-outs - any reason to not use a DIY dovetail slide

Maybe just to clarify a bit: When you say dovetail slide, I’m thinking of something like the guide ways on a metalworking lathe or mill, just tight tolerance metal on metal contact spreading the load over a long distance with barely enough tolerance to allow a lubricant between them. Is that...

Slide-outs - any reason to not use a DIY dovetail slide

I’ve never tried that, but what you describe sounds to me like torsional rigidity could cause issues if your floor structures aren’t stiff enough. How will you power the slide in and out? I can see it getting stuck and binding if slightly misaligned going back in. Sounds like fun though! I...

    Springs and shocks

If you aren’t sagging, don’t change anything. If you are only occasionally sagging, it is hard to beat adding airbags to your existing rear springs. About $100 and extremely variable. I’ve been running them for at least 6 years very happily.

3.5 or 3.7 for a full sized transit van?

I think there is probably a fair amount of soul searching to do on whether or not you fear turbos. I can’t speak for the van setup, but I will tell you the 3.5 in my Expedition (similar size and weight) is simply one of the best driving experiences I’ve ever had. It just makes life easy. The...

Stink in stored duffles, best way to get rid of bad odors?

Same issue. I’m thinking that coated nylon gear has about 25 years before the coating breaks down and then you’re done. Is the coating flaking off the inside… sort of looking like sunburned skin peeling? I did successfully get most, but not all, out of my favorite pack by scrubbing off the...

Anyone convert their patio bbq to take camping? Hear me out

Around here it is common to see people both in campgrounds and dispersed camping areas with full on patio barbecues. They just throw the whole thing in the back of a pickup and bungee the lid down for transport. Bearing in mind this is the same crowd that will get a Malibu stuck on a 4x4...

Do we really need a spare?

Im honking it would be hard to say decisively that plugs couldn’t repair that… because I’m willing to bet that you didn’t even try! Where is the can-do attitude?

    Suggestions for camping/cooking gear please

Ahh, that makes sense, I must have been misreading. In my mind, Chuck box over Bins has won because: The door folds down to make a working surface of sorts. The top is a convenient place to set stuff. The box can be carried to a table or used right in the back of my Jeep if I set up properly...

    Suggestions for camping/cooking gear please

I’m confused. You threw out all of your stuff, or just the bags? Presumably the bags were nylon of some sort? I would have tried washing the bags in Lysol, rinsed and washed again, and back in service. As far as storing kitchen gear, I’ve not been happier since building a proper wooden chuck...

Does anyone have a River Quiver with a RTT on their rig?

Considering how many rigs in Hawaii have a RTT mounted slightly offset to one side and a surfboard rack next to them, I’m sure you could make it work. may first thought on seeming your picture though is to mount the rod holder under the cross bars and the tent on top. Custom bars may be needed.
