I know there are few full-size GM van owners here. Does anyone have a van with the glove box on the engine cover like this:
My van came with a bin opening pictured below that was broken and not terribly usable:
I would love to get a part number off of the glove box so I can research it...
I'm getting some of my kitchen ideas from the internet including the site below. You could build one as nice or as simple as you like:
http://www.campervanlife.com/building/layouts
I keep going back and forth with the DVD/flat screen thought. My idea was to replace the stereo headunit with a...
I have alluded to it in other threads so here is my formal build thread for my new-to-me full-size Chevy Express. The name comes from my hunting buddy who is also a Ted Nugent fan:
My family always had a full-size van when I was growing up. I have wanted a 2nd "project" vehicle for camping...
I turned my adjustment bolt in a few turns and got a little lift. I'm not sure what goes into selecting different torsion bars and assume I would have to go to a suspension shop. I don't have my head around what the different color designations mean either. I would assume the key has more to...
Nice! $8 is a nice find!
I have also heard that Lightforce lights are pretty nice but you definitely pay for them......$250 for model 140 with harness is the cheapest I've found. The one benefit they have over most others is that the beam is adjustable (like a Maglite) so they could function...
(that should be "lighting" in the title)...
I'm curious to see pictures of people's rigs and what kind of exterior lighting everyone is running? I'm looking at fog lights, driving lights, aux. backup lights, etc. and would like to get some ideas of what's available and mounting ideas...
So there hasn't been 100% confirmation that new torsion keys for a Silverado would work on these vans?
I contacted ReadyLift and they said nothing they make can be adapted. I also thought there the was a spot on their site that said if your current keys have an orange color code that no lift...
You bring up a good point:
Firestone Destination A/T = 45 lbs.
BFG All-Terrain KO = 49 lbs.
I haven't been able to find much on the Nitto's or Hankooks.
source: tire "Specs" for each tire at www.tirerack.com
I just picked up a 2005 Chevy 1500 AWD van and tires will be the first order of business. The intended use of the van is a weekend, and sometimes extended, campervan that won't be nearly as heavy as a Sportsmobile (more like a VW Westy; sleeping, storage, etc.). It will see little to no...
kntr - What size BFG AT's did you go with?
Count me in on the AWD van club! I just bought this van this past weekend. I hope to get it next weekend! :wings:
That is what I was wondering. I would prefer a manual shift transfer case but was curious if anyone has ever looked into doing something similar to what T.Low did to his AWD Chevy Astro (swapped in an electronic shift NP233C transfer case and associated parts from a S10).
I need to do a lot...
Have you still been getting mileage in the 19=20 mpg range? These vans are interesting but fueleconomy.gov has them listed at 17 mpg on the highway. I have been encouraged by reports that diesel GM vans get 20+ mpg on the highway but they are hard to find.
Does anyone know if you can do a...
I just passed my Technician level exam last evening! Now I get to go shopping! :ylsmoke:
I thought I would share some thoughts with those who may look to test in the future. Again, these are my opinions:
The ARRL HAM Radio License Manual (Technician Level) = Make sure you get the correct...
I posted in the other thread as well....
I drool over 4x4 vans but I have decided to look for a diesel 2WD. The penalty in fuel mileage, more moving parts to maintain and my overall planned use (mostly long distance on pavement, shorter distances on fire/gravel road) just doesn't support...
Not sure if this will be helpful for you:
http://www.quigley4x4.com/Products/GMProducts/GMProductsOverview.aspx
There are a lot more 4x4 Fords out there vs. GMs and there are no DIY-type kits available that I am aware of (e.g. UJoint). I think the IFS on the GM vans requires a lot more...
Back on topic, it you are looking for 1 "do it all" type of bike for ~$1500 I would look for a full-susp. XC bike with a rear lockout (most do these days, or "anti-bob" is built into the design), perhaps a FS 29" bike but I doubt you'll be finding one of those within your budget. Then you'll...
If one were to opt for 2WD with a locker, what would be recommended for these big vans (Ford E350)? I see ARB has a selectable air locker (RD37) and Eaton has a couple:
- Detroit TrueTrac (LSD)
- Detroit Locker (full locker)
- Detroit E-Locker (selectable electronic)
I'll need to read up on...
Thanks for the link! That is exactly the kind of info I'm looking for!
Like I said, I would love to have a Sportsmobile but I just can't swing that kind of cash for something that would see only a little bit of use at this point in my life. A platform that I could build out over time may be...
I'm glad you asked this question as I've been very interested in the answers. I would like to buy a vehicle suitable for weekend or longer adventuring but I haven't figured out what my answer is yet. I thought one of my criteria was 4x4 but after a bit more thought of what I plan to do, I'm...
